New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States.  Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales.  Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 


Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers.  The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.


The Nautilus Group is a service organization that supports over 200 of New York Life’s top producers.  The ideal candidate will have, at a minimum, eight years of experience in the areas of estate planning, business planning, charitable planning, asset protection planning and income tax planning.   



Role Overview


  • Nautilus Member Agent Support - work closely with Member agents to brainstorm, consult and research on a wide variety of tax, legal, financial and sales issues, as well as prepare analyses of client documents and customized estate and business planning presentations to enable Member agents to be more successful in placing life insurance business
  • Estate Planning Case Design- create customized and sales focused estate planning cases
  • Business Exit Planning Case Design- create customized business planning cases to assist small business owners in preparing for an exit event
  • Financial Planning for the Registered Investment Advisor- assist agents with integrating a client’s estate, business and financial planning objectives by assisting with the development of financial plans, cash flow analyses and custom spreadsheet analyses
  • Document Reviews - provide a detailed analysis of various estate and business planning documents (wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, advance directives, operating agreements, nonqualified deferred compensation agreements)
  • Consultation - provide phone consultation and insurance sales support
  • Webinars for Nautilus Members- create and participate in Webinars to educate Member agents on various planning techniques and sales opportunities and to update Member agents on changes in tax law
  • Special Projects- when needed, assist in specialized writing projects, developing and reviewing technical marketing materials, developing sales initiatives, and providing training to colleagues




  • Juris Doctor, required
  • CLU, FINRA Series 7, 66, preferred
  • Requires a minimum of seven years’ experience in an estate and/or business planning practice
  • Knowledge of the advanced market, including estate and gift transfer tax planning, business planning, qualified and non-qualified retirement planning, charitable planning and income tax planning 
  • Able to analyze complex estate and business planning documents and should have considerable familiarity with operational and technical requirements of various estate and business planning strategies and techniques
  • Able to work independently to develop estate and business plans and to provide technical guidance to Member agents
