This is a HYBRID based role: (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on-site | Monday and Friday work from home)

New York Life is seeking a hands-on problem-solver to help build out Cloud Services team and drive cross-functional technology for delivering projects on the IaaS platform to meet critical technology and business requirements.  You will work along-side top engineers on the team and be at the heart of enabling New York Life’s adoption of a Cloud First strategy.

 

The Team: Cloud Engineering

We enable innovation by providing cloud development platforms for our application teams.  The engineering teams primary focus is understanding the unique requirements across various business areas and enable them with a cloud platform to solve their business problems.  In addition to this, the engineering team will play a key role in enabling these teams to migrate existing workloads into the cloud environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing solutions which enable the development of high-performing applications on the cloud.

  • This is a highly technical, hands-on role that requires a wide and deep experience of the AWS platform.

  • A successful candidate will apply experience in these areas to develop high-performing, scalable and efficient application patterns for the cloud.

  • Responsible for designing of platform features within the AWS environment
  • Establish core services and automation for scalable management of our AWS cloud landing zones.
  • Develop highly resilient AWS based solutions that account for failures within the technology stack and the region
  • Research and develop future-state solutions and onboard new technologies that enhance and optimize the cloud infrastructure stack
  • Partner with teams across the organization to enable delivery of key capabilities to facilitate adoption of the cloud.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be capable of effectively engaging and leading interactions technical and business teams and varying levels of management. Able to comfortably present to customers and stakeholders.
  • Able to research, drive complex technical solutions, consisting of multiple technologies and cloud services
  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration services, including kubernetes
  • Expert in writing detailed solution specifications, diagrams, best practices/standards documentation, etc.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Relevant certification in public cloud services (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or SysOps Administration, etc.)
  • A solid understanding of a wide variety of foundational AWS services including: IAM, Organizations, KMS, CloudFormation, EC2, EKS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Config, SSM, VPC, etc.
  • Experience developing reusable Puppet / Ansible modules with a focus on patching and config management
  • Understanding of AWS Multi-Account Strategy, Control Tower, and Landing Zone concepts
  • Must be self-directed and willing to learn new tools and services to stay up to date with our evolving platforms
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts and pipelines implementing blue / green concepts using tools such as AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeDeploy, GitHub, Jenkins, etc.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile methods, practices, and tools
  • Development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages: Python, Go or other scripting language
  • Team player with demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, analysis, problem solving and short term and long-term planning. 

 

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

  • Familiarity and experience with Big Data concepts and workflow such as ETL, streaming, warehousing, analytics, etc.
  • Experience with AWS data services such as Redshift, Glue, Step Functions, Lake Formation, Athena, RDS, EMR etc.
  • Understanding of AI/ML and advanced analytics and the application thereof in cloud-native environments
  • Experience in provisioning complex infrastructure components like Kakfa / ZooKeeper, Elastic Search cluster, etc
  • Experience with expertise with SQL, Kafka, AWS S3
  • Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Javascript 

 

Experience

  • Education: BS degree in Computer Science or Business preferred but not required
  • 5+ yrs with Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) services and platforms in AWS
  • 4+ yrs of automating solutions and implementation of highly scalable, highly available services using Terraform
  • 7+ years of overall IT experience, with current hands-on experience
  • 5+ years Operating Systems technologies
