New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States.  Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales.  Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 


Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers.  The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.



  • Prepare budget and monitor expenses for Zone and Field Offices, Discretionary and G.O. Funds (SAP, Concur, and Readsoft)
  • Review and approve capital expenditures (equipment, telephone, furniture, etc.) for Field Offices and Zone Office
  • Analyze space needs and negotiate leases.  Oversee construction and build out of office space
  • Prepare budget and monitor Zone and Field Office expenses
  • Monitor Agent ledger activity and debit balances
  • Oversee exception requests for advance commission block lists
  • Review year end, council, quarterly and monthly exception requests for all company programs
  • Support in the development of Field Managers in all areas relevant to Home Office, Zone and Field operations
  • Knowledge of Zone, Field Management and Agent compensation
  • Handle financial and administrative matters related to meetings
  • Analyze and track Profit & Loss statements for Field Offices
  • Supervise Zone Finance Officer and Administrative staff
  • Perform annual financial reviews of all Field Offices
  • Manage requests for Transfers of Interest and CAP adjustments
  • Assist Zone COO with triggering requirements and onboarding
  • Position requires extensive travel



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Experience in budgeting and expense control
  • Ability to analyze and implement containment programs
  • Experience and knowledge of the office lease process
  • Basic understanding of Company and Department long term strategies and objectives
  • Working knowledge of agent and manager requirements and processes
  • Working knowledge of Agency Field Operations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
