Experienced Tax Department leader in the  Investment Tax Group focusing on tax accounting and tax compliance for New York Life's partnership, real estate, stocks, bonds, and other investments.  Maintain partnership tax basis inventory.  Prepare and review tax gain or loss calculations on partnership terminations.  Prepare and review reconciliation of taxable partnership K-1 income to the ledger books and records.  Prepare and review provision to tax return computation, tax basis balance sheet, quarterly provision analysis, and other investment tax related tasks.  Assist with preparation and review of the federal tax return mainly focusing on investment related forms, elections, and supporting schedules.  Review and compile information necessary to respond to the information requests from the IRS.  Perform tax research and analysis.  Work on special tax projects as needed.  Help continue drive efficiencies and process improvements.  Assist on various tax technology projects impacting investment tax reporting.  Lead, mentor, and develop talent. 


Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary review of partnership and real estate investments. 
  • Maintain partnership tax basis inventory including reconstructing tax basis and submitting correcting journal entries to reflect permanent or timing accounting impacts.
  • Review and/or prepare tax gain or loss calculations on partnership terminations, prepare and review reconciliation of ledger amounts to taxable partnership K-1 income for tax return. 
  • Demonstrate and maintain technical expertise in Subchapter K tax matters, including understanding the impact of the Schedule K-1 line items for corporation, tax impact of partnership mergers, liquidations, partner buyouts, impact of debt on tax basis, and the difference between inside and outside basis accounting.
  • Help with consolidated tax return preparation and review related to investments, return to provision analysis, tax basis balance sheet analysis, and other tax tasks. 
  • Prepare and review quarterly provision calculations.
  • Assist with various financial transactions with potential tax implications.



  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance; Master's Degree desirable --MS or MBA but not required
  • Deep understanding of Subchapter K and extensive work experience with partnership tax matters.  Detail oriented and Hands-on attitude a must.  Strong in excel. 
  • Proficient working understanding of Subchapter K - partnership taxation.  Life insurance taxation experience working with partnerships, real estate, stock and bonds investments in-house a plus. 
  • 10+ years tax accounting and compliance experience
