Member of Tax Department Federal and International Tax Function assisting in federal tax accounting process and tax compliance for investments including stocks, bonds, real estate, derivatives and limited partnerships. Strong data analysis skills to understand investment portolio and provide reporting insight to federal tax group and senior management Strong system skills to continuously improve the investment tax process. Work with other members of the federal tax team to respond to IRS inquiries required for the tax examination process. Perform tax research and analysis. Potentially work on other federal tax special projects as needed such as R&D credits and other credit analysis. Assiston various tax technology projects (as the project relates to investments) including Corptax process improvements, data gathering improvements. Position requires attention to detail. This is a hands on position.

 

  • Review and/or prepare investment tax accounting adjustments for quarterly close
  • Review and/or prepare all investmenttaxitemsforthefederaltaxreturnand for state tax returns as needed.
  • investment tax data analytics for the tax accounting and tax compliance process.
  • Identify investment system tax process improvements and lead solution projects.
  • Assist OGCTax as needed and drive investment tax planning.
  • Manage US tax planning projects such as Low Housing and Wind tax credits, and other special projects as needed.
  • Assist with IRS and state tax examinations as needed.
  • Peform research and analysis

 

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of tax accounting and tax compliance processes for investments; data management and process improvement skills
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance; Master's Degree desirable MS or MBA but not required
  • Requires Advanced knowledge of tax accounting under ASC 740
  • Advanced knowledge of investment tax reporting analysis: taxability of investment income/expenses, securities transactions and complex derivatives; Continuous improvement mindset with heavy SQL crystal report and light VBA knowledge necessary to improve processes
  • Helpful to have a general understanding of life insurance and asset management businesses but good process knowledge and understanding of financial services business can overcome lack of understanding of specific life insurance business
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Should be assertive and articulate and able to communicate with managers and co-workers throughout the finance function and business units; also ability to communicate with consultants
  • Will be working as part of various cross functional teams and the ability to understand others functional requirements with openess to finding solutions is essential; Ability to work closely with consultants and auditors helpful.​​​​​​SF:LI-AM1
