New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 

 

Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises  teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.

 

The Data Analytics Team is in search of a strong, detail-oriented strategy/business analyst to assist in developing requirements for system enhancements and test changes required by the various  business units. The analyst will work closely with the business subject matter experts and development teams to make decisions impacting the use of data in the business going forward. This team is  responsible for developing the new Agency Dashboard system which is used by Agents, Field Managers, Home Office and Zone Management teams to track progress towards Agency business objectives.

 

Role Overview

 

 

  • Analysis: Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations. Connect people data to business performance data to generate relevant, actionable insights and make strategic and tactical recommendations. Analyze and interpret business and user requirements into functional requirements and specifications that have an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by the implementation teams.
  • Strategy: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation. Exercise decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Leverage your business skills to connect data insights to understand and solve business challenges. Generate lists of realworld problems that the business is facing that could be addressed with data.
  • Solution Design and Ownership: Leverage emerging technologies to prepare and deliver insights in a scalable way for the Agency distribution system including the recruiting process, agent contracting and the policy life cycle. Manage changes to final requirements through change control process and write specifications for bugs and enhancements. 
  • Execution: Involve problem solving frame-works, develop hypotheses, test and analysis, solution development, scope operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts and develop a monitoring plan. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently. Support user acceptance testing and defect management. 
  • Strong Communication Skills: Understands the business goals and can straddle the discussion between business and data. Provide production support for Agents, Field Managers and Home Office employees by answering queries, researching specific cases and reconciling numbers to other reporting systems. Prepare communications to the Field and Home Office on major changes to the Dashboard system.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7+ years of experience with financial service industry (Life insurance products and  business knowledge preferred)
  • Interest in technology and software
  • Ability to work in white space environment and think outside the box in defining the Key Performance Indicators
  • Ability to simplify complex processes into easy to understand mocking of new Dashboard screens or enhancements to existing screens, developing test plans, testing key changes
  • Display an intense focus on achieving both short and long-term goals. Able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
  • Tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
  • Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple and rapidly changing assignments
