This new role within Supplier Management is responsible for bringing the best practices and implementing the supplier management program across New York Life by providing the following:

 

Position Description:

  1.  Strategy Implementation & Management
  • Collaborate on and support the buildout of a best-in-class supplier management program
  • Support strategic program direction set by leadership team for both short and long term goals.
  • Help manage, document and mature supplier management from an end-to-end perspective, including governance, process & procedures and execution of program activities & reporting in cooperation with Third-Party Risk Management.
  • Manage all aspects of supplier campaigns by soliciting supplier profile data including category segmentation, capabilities, performance management, spend analytics, adherence to company policies, etc.
  • Support the development of a supplier issue management process and work with partner areas within Procurement, Risk and Technology to ensure alignment with NYL’s broader issues management initiative.
  • Partner with business areas, key stakeholders and colleagues throughout NYL to help socialize and implement the program across the organization.
  • Develop understanding of related areas such as NYL third-party risk, sourcing and contracts processes and program requirements.  Work on initiatives and bridge processes, gaps and communications between the programs to ensure unified message and objectives. 
  • Work closely with business leaders, strategic vendor governance leads and other stakeholders across NYL on supplier relationship and performance related matters to help identify and mitigate issues and drive optimal supplier services and value to NYL, throughout the lifecycle
  • Provide insight and reporting on supplier relationship and performance related matters; help develop and maintain enterprise level SLA reporting and requirements
  • Work with business areas to help close any gaps in supplier oversight requirements
  • Provide training on supplier management across the NYL enterprise
  • Use supplier management applications to automate the end-to-end supplier management program
  • Work closely with the procurement systems team to support data synergies across the procurement life cycle to ensure a full 360 degree supplier view and reporting capabilities

 

  1. Management/Leadership
    • Mentor and develop more junior members of the team; leverage their strengths and help them build upon any skillset gaps/areas of improvement to help drive program, team and individual success.
    • Demonstrate supplier management expertise and leadership to team members, business partners and generally across the NYL enterprise.
    • Become an ambassador of the Supplier Management program:  help carry the program message and requirements, build engagement and enthusiasm and drive support across/from all areas of NYL to help achieve program goals.

 

  1. Efficient Processes & Technology
    • Help design and implement optimal and efficient technology and reporting capabilities using industry leading tools.
    • Identify any gaps, duplicative processes or areas of improvement and drive improvements for automation, enhancement of data and workflow elements, and help increase transparency of NYL’s suppliers.
    • Build out new data management capabilities for supplier management, including assisting with common data needs for Supplier Diversity and Sourcing areas.

 

Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of relevant industry experience (including insurance, banking or financial industry background)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; MBA or comparable advanced degree preferred
  • At least 3 years specifically in a supplier management role (risk and/or performance management)
  • Proficiency in contract management & contracting principals as they relate to supplier management
  • Exceptional collaboration, interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to build relationships internally within the organization, as well as with suppliers as needed
  • Possess leadership skills to independently lead, influence and closely collaborate with business peers and stakeholders on current and future state objectives; exceptional business partnering skills
  • Strong & effective communication skills, both written and oral; ability to present to senior leaders, peers, and external partners in a clear and consistent manner, fostering dialogue and helping to drive decisions
  • Strong analytical, organizational and technical skills
  • Knowledge of industry standard supplier management platforms strongly preferred
  • Strong managerial experience
  • Ability to learn to use new system(s) to support basic functions of the role

  • Pursuit & Completion of higher level professional designations preferred
