The Senior API Designer is responsible for the design, analysis, development, implementation, and deployment of new interfaces, web applications, as well as existing systems supporting business objectives while sharing a point of view in all phases of the software development lifecycle: conception, design, testing, production, and maintenance.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Analyzes, designs, and supports the development of applications using standard application design patterns and detailed approaches to application integration.
  • Works on new and existing applications.
  • Designs APIs using modern technology stack.
  • Performs hands-on API design and data mapping, mentors junior API Designers, and assists in architecting solutions.
  • Analyzes existing systems to develop data models and data mappings to support overall end to end data flow
  • Serves as liaison to internal customers, research groups and various business support areas.
  • Functions as the single point of contact to a cross-functional team for a variety of managed applications.
  • Works with inter-departmental teams to analyze and understand business requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise during the requirements gathering phase of a project.
  • Accurately details new requirements, improvements to existing functionality, and implementation deficiencies that need to be addressed.
  • Technical solution to include detailed design documentation, configuration, and other supporting technical documents.
  • Provides technical documentation to internal business and design teams.
  • Supports quality assurance efforts to gain user acceptance.
  • Provides effective communication across the team as appropriate.
  • Facilitates design and technical meetings.
  • Implements enterprise policies for security and confidentiality at the system and inter-system level.
  • Collaborates with product owners and scrum masters to manage product backlog and prioritize user stories and defects
  • Performs root cause analysis on production and testing issue
     

Required Skills

 

  • Good understanding of software development engineering principles, frameworks and technologies.
  • Knowledge of supporting messaging standards including XML, XSD, WSDL, JSON and RAML
  • Experience with Postgres and Oracle databases with Intermediate SQL skills
  • Gather business specifications and technical requirements, and translate them into solutions creating well structured, maintainable and easy to understand Solution Design Document or Technical Design Document
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • A good decision-maker, with proven success at making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
  • Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
  • Adept at building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives and goals
  • Capable of building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions
  • An effective communicator, capable of determining how best to reach different audiences and executing communications based on that understanding
  • A contributor in a team environment, as well as able to function independently and learn new technologies
     

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related subject area.
  • Knowledge of Life Insurance Standards like ACORD
     

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge and experience in Life Insurance and Annuity industry
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with ACORD Standards
  • Ability to read and understand MuleSoft and Java code
     

Required Experience

 

  • 7+ years’ experience in Information Systems, Insurance preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in web or cloud-based applications is highly preferred

 

The salary range for this position is between $105,000 - $160,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and benefits.
