Position Summary

The Annuity Controllers team works closely with a variety of stakeholders in the Retail and Institutional Annuity lines of business, Corporate Controllers, and other Corporate areas to ensure the integrity of New York Life’s general ledger, deliver timely and accurate financial reporting, and drive continuous improvement in our processes. This position offers a great opportunity to work as a finance partner, learn about the various products, and many aspects of accounting and reporting. This is a hybrid position requiring three days a week (Tuesday thru Thursday) in our Jersey City office and Monday and Friday are work at home days.

 

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the following primary responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Assist in the completion of statutory financial reports.
  • Utilize the product administrative system to research differences, identify errors, and test system enhancements.
  • Responsible for various rates and fee calculations for Annuity products.
  • Review co-sourcing partner’s work and provide timely feedback.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred , preferably in Accounting or Finance.
  • Summer internship experience in related field a plus.
  • Industrious self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Excel proficiency required.  Skills working on SQL queries and other reporting/analytical tools such as Tableau are a plus.
  • Familiarity with SAP, the general ledger system, is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Need to be customer and stakeholder focused.
  • Must possess an open mind and be adaptable to new tasks and procedures. 
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrate high level of self-awareness, professionalism and integrity with all internal and external parties.

 

Work Location: Hybrid:  In office Tues, Wed, Thurs and remote on Mon & Fri.
