Job Function

The SRE is part of an application team whose role focuses on implementing new applications and migrating existing on-premise applications to the NYL cloud environments.  The individual will implement the automation of availability, performance, maintainability and optimization of business applications in NYL for on-premise and cloud environments. To be effective in the position, the individual must understand modern approaches to source control management and deployment automation on both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure.  The individual must work closely with the team to ensure the availability of environments, to perform technical tasks such as deployment and database administration, and to understand the work-effort involved to setup and configure operating systems, networks, databases, and application servers involved in the creation of the environments. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of organizing and tracking the progress of multiple projects across the software development lifecycle and engage in active communication with multiple development teams and project managers.  The candidate will be required to adhere to all Enterprise processes and controls (ie: ChgMgt, Incident and Problem Mgmt, etc) and ensure alignment to standards and best practices. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Application teams, Infrastructure teams, ASM teams, and Cloud Services and to deliver projects
  • Be responsible for environment management of all non-prod and production regions
  • Be responsible for building automated deployments of code and automation for any Cloud account customizations required by the application
  • Be responsible for environment optimization including capacity planning, maximizing utilization of deployed resources and reduce spend leveraging cost management tooling
  • Deploy code and infrastructure as code to QA, staging, and production environments
  • Provide ASM team and developers assistance for applications where needed
  • Automate manual processes and perform environment cleanup
  • Work with ASM team to provide operational support, including off-hours incident response. The individual will be responsible for escalating to the application or Cloud Support team
  • Analyze incoming incidents/alerts from ASM team and present opportunities for appropriate/proper prioritization of incident/alerts
  • Follow the enterprise change management process to deploy fully tested and documented solutions/applications to a production environment.  Assist in runbook review
  • Ability to multi-task and manage tasks with varying priorities
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and able to work across diverse technical and non-technical teams 


Required Qualifications

  • MUST HAVE - Ability to write and implement code deployment and Cloud platform automation
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong public cloud provider experience (AWS SysOps or DevOps certification a plus)
  • Strong systems, network, and admin knowledge
  • Experience troubleshooting application issues in on-premises and Cloud environments
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and delivery tools
  • Practical experience with modern scripting languages (Python, .Net, C#, Java)
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows/IIS/Linux/Apache/TomCat applications servers integrated with several relational databases running Oracle, and SQL Server
  • Strong working knowledge of API deployments and integrations
  • Complete application transition from on-premises to Cloud infrastructure
