Primary Responsibilities of Position:

Responsible for assisting in the development and debugging of a JAVA Front User Interface and MS Access database systems support.


Specific job responsibilities will include:

  • Independently build JAVA front ends to automate current manual processes based on business needs as defined by internal NYL users
  • Further enhance existing JAVA development to minimize manual manipulation of data & eliminate risks
  • Test and debug JAVA code
  • Establish validations for input fields and table drive lists where possible to help prevent input errors
  • Assist with consolidation of SQL data structure
  • Manage Model Office environment to facilitate testing of updates & code changes
  • Provide technical support to ensure compatibility of current programs with Operating System & Application upgrades
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing with business customers
  • Maintain a physical master model of all data structures and how they interact (Flow Chart/Data Dictionary)
  • Perform data manipulation/optimization/warehousing
  • Maintain a positive relationship with all internal teams and external vendors to ensure NYL business needs are met
  • Provide administration team with comprehensive training documentation for modifications



Requirements for Position:

  • Strong JAVA programming experience
  • Strong Visual Basic and Microsoft Access/Excel Programming/Automation experience
  • Experience in SQL Server
  • General Understanding of database flow charts, and the MS Visio/CA Erwin tools needed to build them
  • Motivated team member who is a self-starter
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Be comfortable asking questions to facilitate and continue growth
  • Able to look at ‘big picture’ and make suggestions for final approaches in production problem resolution related to these databases
  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external clients involved in the development and support of AMN databases
  • Experience in life insurance a plus
