New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven Application Delivery Lead to join our dynamic, high-performing team focused on transforming the experience of purchasing insurance from NYL.  NYL is uniquely positioned for success on this journey thanks to our significant strategic advantage in insurance expertise and deep financial resources.  


The Application Delivery Lead manages one or more teams aligned to an application suite through the technology development lifecycle.  This role requires expert team building, relationship management, and development or engineering management skills.  It requires a unique ability to dive deep to resolve complex technology and operational challenges one hour, and then elevate to provide executive-level progress updates the next.  The ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years of experience in management of software development teams on large-scale programs.

  • Oversee a team or teams aligned to an application suite through all phases of the technology development lifecycle on large-scale, complex initiatives
  • Provide guidance to business leaders during annual and quarterly planning on a reasonable team capacity threshold to avoid over-committing
  • Manage a key vendor relationship, including contract management, capacity planning, delivery capability optimization, and issue management
  • Define and execute staffing and technology strategy for respective application(s) to improve total cost of ownership, while maintaining high software quality and efficient speed to market
  • Develop a team culture of collaboration that encourages challenging and supporting each other, embraces continuous improvement, and a high sense of accountability of outcomes
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture team to ensure standards and best practices are being adhered to on new initiatives
  • Ensure applications meet all SLAs for production performance, challenge teams to identify new SLAs, and incrementally improve targets for existing
  • Ensure application suite meets security requirements and manage relationship with Security Review Board
  • Articulate technology issues/concerns to non-IT stakeholders including senior business sponsors


Required experience and skills:

  • 7+ years managing a team of software developers / engineers
  • 7+ years of experience managing software applications
  • 5+ years of experience with agile development methodologies on programs with multiple teams and technologies
  • 5+ years in Life Insurance or Financial Services industries
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to varying audiences, including non-technical business executives
  • Ability to establish business relationships built on trust, transparency, collaboration, and accountability
  • 5+ years working with modern Infrastructure and Application Development practices and tools
  • 3+ years utilizing Cloud-Enabled/Optimized practices for Application Development
  • Proven leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and/or equivalent work experience preferred but not required
