Hybrid role: only 3 days per month in the office:

New York Life is looking for a hands-on Lead SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) professional to join the Client & Beneficiary Experience Quality Engineering team. The Lead SDET provides highly specialized and advanced technical expertise and will be a leader within the QE team. The Lead SDET must be a thought leader for Quality Engineering, looking for areas of efficiencies and improvement at all turns. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of QE practices, automation frameworks, innovative ideas to enhance current testing processes. You will also be responsible for leading E2E testing by managing all testing activities that span across different lines of business, technology stacks and applications. You will be a strong advocate for automation, in addition to hands-on automation development while working with QE Management to optimize all of testing, enhance efficiency in testing and improve software quality for the overall organization. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedback, guidance and offer solutions to improve testing in the overall Enterprise.
  • Lead E2E testing by managing all testing activities that span across different lines of business, technology stacks and applications.
  • Create and manage the master test execution schedule.
  • Create a comprehensive E2E testing strategy and ensuring that assigned testing teams work together effectively and that the testing function is properly integrated across technological areas.
  • Estimate, plan, prioritize and coordinate testing activities.
  • Design, develop and execute automation.
  • Track key testing metrics and ensure regular and consistent communication of progress towards overall testing goals to PM and all stakeholders (BRM, BA, Product Owners, development and Program Managers).
  • Lead multiple projects concurrently, including those most visible and important to the overall organization.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise and mentoring to the quality engineering team and the broader organization.
  • Analyze new and emerging trends in quality engineering and systems architecture, while evaluating alternatives and completing feasibility studies.
  • Provide advice to senior management on quality assurance advancements and makes strategic recommendations.

 

Education/Training:

BS in Computer Science/Engineering preferred but not required if someone has adequate work experience and the skills for the role

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience as a Lead SDET supporting Life Insurance platforms is a requirement.
  • Experience as Lead SDET in financial services organizations is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant testing experience required, including management and leadership experience.
  • Experience leading E2E testing for large programs that span across multiple systems.
  • Proven experience in developing automation using self-service automation frameworks.
  • Strong experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium/WebDriver, BDD/TDD frameworks.
  • Experience in testing front-end and backend APIs of Web and Batch applications in both distributed and Mainframe Systems.
  • Experience in testing RESTful API and SOAP web services.
  • Experience in SCRUM, KANBAN, LEAN, SAFE and XP methodologies on large complex Agile projects.
  • Experience in Agile tools like Rally (Agile Central) and JIRA.
  • Experience testing in distributed, Mainframe and Cloud environments.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ), with the ability to lead diverse teams.
  • Experience working with and managing on and offshore resources both from a staff augmentation and managed services arrangement.
  • Proven ability to drive technical and tactical innovation in the functional testing area, with proof of innovation in prior roles, promoting functional depth of testing, improving testing efficiency, and expanding the scope of testing to be more impactful.
