This role on the Enterprise Platform Engineering team is to lead the designing, engineering, documenting, and direction of implementation of new technologies in the Operating System and Automation/Orchestration space for the NYL Enterprise.  The major focus will be Next Generation platforms and management.  Applicant should be a well-established technical leader and be versed in a wide range of Automation platforms and Operating Systems including Windows Server, LINUX, and Cloud services.   Applicant should have extensive experience running technical projects while leading multiple teams throughout a project’s life cycle.

 

Responsibilities include: 

Candidates for this role must have significant Engineering experience in multiple areas including Automation, Orchestration, and OS (including virtualization).  This role will be a technical leadership role, which requires a background in project leadership.  Understanding of multiple areas (including Enterprise Storage, Virtualization, Authentication, Cloud, and/or Containers) is a plus.

 

Scripting skills such as VBScript, PowerShell, Java, etc. Strong server optimization and tuning skills/experience. Working knowledge of automated builds preferably using products and tools such as vRa, Ansible, Puppet, Terraform.  Excellent consultative and communication skills, analytical ability and judgment. The ability to work effectively with client and IT management and staff, consults and vendors 

 

The individual will communicate with all levels within the ECS organization as well as supporting the Business. The candidate is required to understand related disciplines such as network, storage, security, and disaster recover planning.  The position will require the person to operate with moderate supervision in routine matters, develop and monitor work plan/task lists for medium scale assignments that would be part of a larger project plan, and exercise independent judgment in problem resolution.      

 

 

Experience: 

  • Strong technical Leadership background.  Ownership of technologies as well as demonstrated leadership of complex projects and team members.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience engineering OS server solutions (Windows and/or UNIX/Linux). 
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience engineering and implementing automated workloads. 
  • Significant ability to demonstrate troubleshooting/root cause analysis in a L3 format. 
  • OS and Application monitoring tools like AppDynamics
  • Experienced in the entire Windows eco-system, DNS, DHCP, AD, etc. 
  • Experienced in the LINUX (RHEL, CentOS) Operating system
  • Broad knowledge/experience with PowerShell scripting.  Additional scripting in other languages a plus (Java, Python, Shell, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of security patch management and vulnerability assessment tools.
  • Windows 2008-2019 practical experience and knowledge
  • Red Hat LINUX 5-7, CentOS, and other distros practical experience and knowledge
  • Virtualization Engineering experience (VMware) and product set(s)
  • Knowledge of identify management, single-sign on and authentication products including CA SiteMinder and Ping Federate  
  • Broad knowledge of network design, storage (SAN, NAS, Local Storage), Containerization, firewall disciplines, Middleware, application architecture
  • Broad knowledge of Capacity and Performance Management       
  • Experience in project management technologies and process 

 

Skills:

  • Deep scripting skill using PowerShell and/or Python
  • Good understanding of fundamentals of Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management, DSC, e.g., Ansible/Playbooks/Yaml, Terraform, Puppet, etc.
  • Use of source control, e.g., Git, Github, Gitlab, Jenkins, etc.
  • Automated Discovery tools and integration into asset and CMDB systems
  • Extensive Build and Automation experience with Cloud Management Platforms, e.g., vRealize Automation, CloudBolt, Azure Arc, Nutanix Beam, etc.
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure, e.g., VMware, AWS, Azure, OpenStack, etc.
  • Expert knowledge in Operating System platforms with a focus on Current releases and roadmaps. 
  • Envision and execute on the target technology solutions, infrastructure, services and components that are required to satisfy the business.  
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Domains along with Group Policy Expertise
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively explain messaging technologies solutions in a clear and concise manner to high level business executives.  
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with other internal architecture and engineering groups 
  • Executes with minimal direction 
  • Proven ability to strategically analyze risks, benefits and opportunities associated with technology solutions
  • Strong understanding of Security Hardening practices.  
  • Possess good troubleshooting skills resolving hardware and OS related issues.  

 

Education: 

Bachelors or Associates Degree preferred but will also consider someone without a degree that has the required work experience
