New York Life Real Estate Investors (NYLREI) is the real estate investment arm of one of the nation’s largest mutual life insurance companies.  NYLREI manages over $60 billion in client assets, including commercial mortgages, commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), direct equity real estate ownership and other real estate related investments on behalf of both third-party institutional investors and New York Life. This is a HYBRID opportunity.


New York Life Real Estate Investors NYLREI has an immediate opening for an Associate in our Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) and real estate capital markets group. 


The position will entail the following responsibilities:


  • Working with senior members of the team, assisting in collateral loan analysis of the CMBS we buy, sell or hold; and ascertaining how the performance of the underlying loans affects the credit worthiness and performance of the related CMBS bonds.
  • The production and distribution of portfolio reporting for clients and other constituents.
  • Assist in portfolio surveillance including identification of potential emerging investment risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain and improve existing modeling infrastructure utilized to identify new investment opportunities and conduct portfolio surveillance.
  • Assisting with market research, web-based data mining, cash flow modeling, and database analysis.


The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and able to handle multiple simultaneous work assignments.  They should be comfortable working in a team environment and have effective verbal and written communications skills.  The role requires strong computer modeling skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel and ability to work with large data sets.  The successful candidate will possess up to two years of experience in financial or quantitative analysis or similar educational background as well as a demonstrated interest in commercial real estate.
