Duties: Perform actuarial pricing for New York Life’s product. Prepare pension risk transfer bids. Calculate appropriate levels of capital the company should hold for pension risk transfer cases and assist Valuation Team in setting proper levels of reserves to back pensions risk transfer line of business. Support the financial reporting and planning process. Understand and assess the impacts of regulatory, economic and competitive pressures on New York Life’s products and help develop solutions to the challenges these pressures pose. Provide input into assumption setting, such as mortality, investment, expense and policyholder behavior assumptions. Provide input into development of pricing methodologies and targets. Oversee model development and enact proper model controls. Develop and maintain actuarial models in Prophet Actuarial Software, and additional analytical tools in Excel and VBA, used for actuarial pricing, profitability analyses, and risk assessment. Perform statistical data analysis, project and analyze financial results, linking back to business strategy. Perform actuarial liability modeling to examine the profitability and risk of existing and potential new products. Focus on building relationships with all business partners in business unit and corporate finance teams. Provide ad hoc actuarial analytical capabilities to business partners and senior management, to inform corporate strategy and business unit decision making regarding NYL’s product suites. Communicate complex technical actuarial topics and analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences. Lead new projects through completion, including developing projects plan, defining deliverables, and monitoring progress and completion. Propose new projects and initiatives that further company strategy. Represent the actuarial perspective in cross department initiatives and decisions. Communicate impacts of pricing, financial and competitive risks and issues to business leaders. Propose appropriate solutions for strategic and structural problems. Host meetings with stakeholders. Define and communicate a chosen course of action and obtain buy-in from relevant parties. Supervise a team of junior level actuaries performing actuarial work. Teach actuarial theory, practice and software to junior level actuaries. Manage team responsibilities and resources with flexibility to meet shifting priorities and demanding time schedules. Delegate work across the team, taking responsibility for final work product. Develop junior level employees by setting clear goals and expectations and providing constructive feedback for improvement of skills and work product. Foster continuous improvement as quantified by efficiency and accuracy metrics.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Actuarial Mathematics, Mathematics, Mathematical Risk Management, Commerce or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and 5 years of experience providing actuarial services for life insurance or annuity products


Required Skills & Certifications:


Must possess:


  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation and must meet all requirements for MAAA designation.


  • Completion of all Society of Actuaries (SOA) and American Academy of Actuaries (AAA) general and position-specific continuing education requirements.


Experience must include 3 years in each of the following skills :

  1. Performing actuarial pricing, and modeling of asset and liability projections, of life insurance or annuity products;


  1. Analyzing data, actuarial assumptions, and performing actuarial calculations in accordance with Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOP) standards and their state variations;


  1. Analyzing statutory income statements and performing analysis of financial results;


  1. Interacting with senior management, product managers, finance partners, technology partners to explain technical actuarial topics to both technical and non-technical audiences; and,


  1. Utilizing Excel and VBA programming to perform actuarial calculations.



Offered Wage:  $174,762.00/year
