Position Summary

The CVP, UW Rules Automation role provides support to the production underwriting teams and management by leading NYL's rules-based underwriting automation efforts enabled by our low-code, configuration-based AURA toolset. 

Working under the direction of the SSG BA/UAT team leader, the CVP, UW Rules Configuration is responsible for managing a team of business analysts/rule configurators that assess rule requirements, configure/test rule changes, and deliver new UW rules features and maintenance changes leveraging our Automated Underwriting and Risk Analysis (AURA) rules maintenance tool.

Key accountabilities include, but not limited to:

 

  • Responsible for review and analysis of requirements to ensure AURA capabilities can support the business need
  • Review requirements, including disclosure types, evidences and multivariate conditions to find if AURA functionality exists to support the design. If gaps, document high level requts for RGA product team
  • Monitor underwriting automation trends and help quantify the projected business impact of new rules features to inform AURA UW Product Owner backlog grooming and prioritization
  • Submit enhancement requests to AURA Helpdesk for RGA Steerco Approval and maintain future roadmap of AURA base enhancements
  • Map NYL impairments/elements to AURA data and update mapping documentation
  • Collaborate with NYL Technology Disclosure Mapping team to maintain our Java service used to translate NYL data elements to AURA Inner XML standard
  • Collaborate and influence UW Medical Directors and UW leadership when setting new or updating existing guidelines for impairments to minimize rule complexity
  • Strong team building skills and communication skills
  • Partner with testing teams to create test scenarios, assess defects and coordinate closure

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead team responsible for building rules; cross collaborate, raise issues and blockers
  • Build backlog of rules and prioritize into sprints
  • Assign user stories to configurators based on complexity and capacity
  • Identify rule requirements gaps (i.e. new BOM or new capability) and document high level reqts for AURA product team
  • Provide input on direct reports' annual goals and expectations; proactively handle the performance management process with each direct report
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of our administrative systems, product rules,  Underwriting Guidelines and medical factors impacting mortality
  • Recruiting responsibilities for respective team (s)
  • Expense Management (travel, supplies, overtime, etc.
  • Coach and train staff; provide on-going feedback in addition to performance reviews; conduct team and individual meetings
  • Requires advanced understanding of practices and procedures in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines
  • Applies understanding of the company and how own area contributes to the achievement of objectives
  • May manage either a team of professionals and/or managers; adapts plans and priorities to meet service and/or operational challenges
  • Identifies and resolves moderately complex problems
  • Responsibility for the delivery of end results focused on operational excellence
  • Makes decisions guided by function/business plans and policies that impact the team and related teams’ ability to achieve objectives
  • Guides and influences others internally in other areas and/or externally, including senior leaders

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-10 years’ experience; Minimum of 5-7 years life new business and/or underwriting experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong background in life underwriting, underwriting rule development and analysis
  • Preferred experience with Agile practices and methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of development concepts and SDLC methodologies
  • Experience with RGA's AURA rules maintenance and disclosure maintenance (RMT & DMT) toolset preferred
