The Strategic Capabilities Project Management Office (PMO) is seeking to hire a Project Manager with Agile and Waterfall experience.  The candidate will support a wide variety of compelling high impact projects that spans marketing, product, sales, etc. The ideal candidate is passionate about the intersection between data-driven insights, impactful business strategy and intelligence, and solving complex challenges. They will partner with leaders across the enterprise to deliver analytical recommendations to aid in the decision-making process. They will illuminate areas of opportunities to drive incremental value across the Foundational Insurance Business.

 

As a member of the Strategic Capabilities Program Management Office (PMO), the Project Manager will play a key role in driving Strategic Capabilities projects from conceptualization through completion. The position resides in a business PMO and exclusively supports the Strategic Insights team, who are highly skilled, collaborative, analytics professionals with a passion for data and insights. They are engaged in the strategies of the company.

 

The successful Project Manager will drive projects using Waterfall, and Agile/Scrum project management methods and tools in support of key project deliverables. The position reports into the Strategic Capabilities PMO Manager and is based in the New York City corporate headquarters.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for leading the delivery of multiple strategic initiatives using SDLC (Waterfall) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Prepares long and short-term plans.
  • Analyzes and assists in documenting costs/benefits of potential options related to project.
  • Partners with the business in the project ideation phase to provide expertise toward the creation of project conceptualization and strategy.
  • Defines project roles/responsibilities and determines/ensures proper resourcing for project (including on-shore and off-shore resources).
  • Defines and manages time, quality, and risk parameters for project. Assures project is delivered on-time and within budget.
  • Establishes timelines, scope, milestones, helps define implementation dates, and ensures commitments of deliverables with project core teams.
  • Facilitates high level design discussions with various stakeholders.
  • Pro-actively prepares and presents progress updates to appropriate management channels by providing updates via daily stand-ups, project meeting minutes, presentations, and weekly project status reports.
  • Continually assures innovation sought is being achieved by providing roadmaps on key project deliverables to stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and determine when to escalate risks and issues where appropriate within a project; makes suggestions and recommendations.
  • Manages and collaborates with the project core team, cross organizational teams, and key stakeholders in detecting and documenting possible risks, issues (along with associated remediation plans), and all changes to scope and/or schedule; mitigates/escalates as needed to resolve and achieve commitments from all key stakeholders.
  • Analyzes project impediments and designs/implements solutions.
  • Partners closely with the business project lead and Technology Project Manager facilitating close coordination throughout the project lifecycle. Acts as a liaison with stakeholders across the company.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with outside sources – including external third-party vendors.
  • Proactively explores opportunities to add value to the business by re-engineering processes to save time/money, decrease risk, or increase quality.
  • Manages and organizes project documentation on SharePoint site.
  • Supports and manages any ad hoc project requests as required.
  • Keeps track of lessons learned and implements solutions for improvement; shares lessons learned with future projects.
  • The successful Project Manager will support and/or champion process and tool improvement efforts to strengthen and build upon existing PMO capabilities by continuously improving project management functions and developing new capabilities as appropriate.
  • Defines and enforces best practices.
  • Responsible for coaching and leading multiple project teams to follow the core set of standard SAFe/Agile/Scrum and Waterfall processes and standardized tools designed to deliver high quality and exceptional business value to our stakeholders.
  • Supports collaboration with other PMOs within New York Life to identify proven project management standards and opportunities for enterprise-wide adoption of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

 

Essential Requirements and Experience:

Functional Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification highly preferred.
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in Project Management within the Insurance/Finance Industry preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking, and ability to exercise prudent judgment.

 

Technical Expertise

  • Requires in-depth expertise in Project Management knowledge and competencies.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, data warehouse concepts and ETL, ELT design, SQL, and data visualization tools, preferred.
  • Understanding of analytics tools such as Excel, Python and Tableau, preferred.
  • Skilled in project software: SharePoint, MS Project, MS Office, and Visio.
  • Knowledge of Agile tools such as JIRA preferred.
  • Knowledge of Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) is a plus.
  • Ability to build reports and presentations with appropriate details for varying audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well across organizations and with cross-functional teams.

  • Prepares communications regarding roadmaps, strategy, innovation, project direction, decisions, issues, risks, and status for management.

Salary range: $115,000-$175,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt
