New York Life Insurance Company is seeking a Compliance Officer to provide support NYL Investors LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary.  NYL Investors, a SEC registered investment adviser, is a fixed income management firm with approximately $283 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2021.  In addition, the Compliance Officer will support the compliance program of IndexIQ Advisors LLC, the investment advisor to the IndexIQ ETFs. 


The Compliance Officer will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer of NYL Investors, and is located New York, NY.  The Compliance Officer will be responsible for various aspects of the NYL Investors and IndexIQ compliance program.  The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the types of responsibilities the Compliance Officer may handle but are not intended to be an exclusive list.  New York Life is looking for a proactive team player to be an engaged member of the Compliance team.  The position will have regular interaction with senior management, compliance, legal, portfolio management and operations personnel.




  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Compliance program of NYL Investors and IndexIQ.
  • Assist with overseeing trade investment guideline monitoring process.
  • Address Trade Surveillance issues for the Trading Desk, as necessary.
  • Review client mandates, advisory contracts, prospectuses and statements of additional information.
  • Review guideline setups and conduct reconciliations to ensure correctness of account setups within the compliance system.
  • Interface with investment professionals, traders, operations, and business units as appropriate, to identify and resolve compliance issues that arise.
  • Prepare best execution and supervisory reviews, certifications, and compliance checklists.
  • Assist with projects relating to the enhancement of compliance procedures, policies and internal controls.




Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 5 years of compliance experience with an investment adviser or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and other relevant regulations applicable to investment advisers. 
  • Experienced with testing and reporting with respect to Rule 206(4)-7 under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.
  • Familiarity with trade order management systems and the compliance functionality with such systems.  Experience with Blackrock Aladdin preferred.
  • Experience with fixed income, leveraged loans, private placements, real estate investments, and ETFs and mutual funds.
  •  Detail-oriented, organized, highly proficient individual to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, and able to solve complex problems in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong communications (both verbal and written) skills and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with others and meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong ethical commitment.
  • Exhibit initiative, dependability and motivation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
