The Corporate Resilience – Disaster Recovery (DR) Program Manager will deliver on a business centric program to evaluate, advise, and ensure effectiveness of technology resilience and disaster recovery capabilities and controls across New York Life and its subsidiaries. This includes acting as an internal consultant to provide technology resilience and recovery risk and control guidance, as well as overseeing and evaluating annual on site and hosted technology recovery exercises that are integrated with business continuity plan objectives. This role, within the second line of defense Risk Management team, will partner with stakeholders from all three lines of defense to further strengthen the organization’s disaster recovery and resilience capabilities and align with company objectives. 

The DR Program Manager’s overall responsibility is to reduce risk in alignment with the Company’s risk appetite, by ensuring a state of readiness to respond to any potential business disruption or crisis, impacting operations of our employees, agents, data centers, worksites, or third parties.

The objectives for the DR Program Manager are to enhance and continuously improve the DR planning process across the company, working in concert with Technology and the business. Further, the DR Program Manager will provide oversight and drive the implementation of Corporate Resilience DR standards, processes and procedures.  This individual will leverage their experience and industry knowledge to implement best practices and ensure effectiveness and compliance across the disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident management domains.  A particular area of emphasis will be advocating for emerging resilience and recovery strategies for Cloud, hybrid and other third party hosted technology solutions, evolving beyond legacy disaster recovery strategies and approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with key stakeholders, including first line Technology, business counterparts, and Risk partners in the overall execution of  Disaster Recovery standards, program requirements, planning processes, and recovery exercises
  • Lead with minimal supervision the development, approval, and publishing of integrated Disaster Recovery  program governance documentation, including standards, controls, playbooks, training materials, and other required documents
  • Educate, coach and partner with Technology counterparts and business organizations in the development, management, testing, and continuous improvement of recovery plans
  • Arrange with Technology and business partners to schedule and execute resilience related tests, simulations, tabletops, and live exercises to achieve successful results
  • Pursue continuous improvement and drive adoption of lessons learned during resilience related tests, exercises, and simulations
  • Handle the integration of Disaster Recovery and related Business Continuity requirements into processes such as Change Management, Release Management, Problem Management, ITIL processes, and PMO processes such as SDLC
  • Ensure required DR data elements, including business and Technology-provided values such as RTO, RPO, MTD, and Technology recovery capability values documented during exercises are accurate and integrated into key databases including Insight, CMDB, Assurance, etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong technology, disaster recovery, and IT or business Risk Management experience of at least 5-10 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology/Systems, or related field
  • Excellent leadership, relationship building, communication, writing and organizational skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to function independently with limited direction
  • Ability to articulate complex technology risk assessment information to non-technical business leaders to ensure comprehension
  • Ability to build partnerships and add value across businesses, technology groups, levels and disciplines
  • Proven technical knowledge of resilience and recovery principles and processes, to include up to date knowledge of current technology solutions, including Cloud and hybrid third party solutions
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements underpinning standards, including, NIST, ISO, FFIEC, DRI, etc.
  • Disaster Recovery, incident management, risk management, and or business continuity professional or industry certifications desirable
  • IT control assessment experience, including third-party hosted infrastructure and application solutions is highly desirable
  • Ability to discern business relevant risk associated with technology control deficiencies observed during recovery exercises or control assessments, and to identify corresponding remediation efforts required to reduce business impacts
