Role Overview:
The DIS Product Director will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative new disability insurance products and building a comprehensive suite of wellness programs designed to improve the health and independence of policyowners. As one of the few carriers still writing new business, this position will provide thought leadership to make New York Life the preeminent name in Disability insurance and they will take leadership roles in industry groups, partnering with our Office of Government Affairs and Office of General Counsel to positively influence the direction of the insurance marketplace.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead product development and implementation of innovative new stand-alone DIS and linked benefits products and riders
- Manage the in-force block
- Be an active participant in government affairs as they relate to DIS
- Manage the filing process for new products and any outstanding premium increases
- Closely manage the implementation of new products on the IT systems, ensuring effective communication of requirements up front and monitoring progress along the way
- Partner with Agency to grow DIS sales and educate agents on our product portfolio
- Build and develop relationships with distribution partners
- Ensure training and development needs of the team are being met at all points in their career journey
What You’ll Bring:
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 10+ years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry, with a strong preference for candidates with experience with disability insurance products. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a track record for enhancing and executing on a sophisticated strategy to drive new sales growth and achieve targeted returns.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to act as thought-leader and should be comfortable with building new products and distribution strategies within the company. In addition, strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to establish trust, navigate organizational complexity and influence both direct and indirect teams to achieve excellent results are required.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or related curriculum is required. An MBA, JD, and/or other advanced degree is preferred, but not required.
Reporting Relationship
This position will report to the Head of Disability Income Solutions.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $175,000 - $237,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
