Job Summary

As the Internal Communications Business Partner for Human Resources in the Corporate Communications team, you will be a key partner for the Head of Human Resources, HR Leadership, and their teams in the delivery of their strategic objectives. Your role will be to develop communications strategies and materials that educate and engage almost 8,000 employees on everything HR, from health and wellness benefits, to learning and development opportunities, tuition reimbursement, internal mobility programs, savings and retirement benefits, and all the ways that New York Life strives to create a diverse and inclusive community. You will do so by leveraging best practices including within employee engagement, channel strategy, change management, analytics, and leadership communications. You will also be responsible for supporting the HR leadership in their communications within the HR department – aligning the HR team around its strategic objectives via communications channels including blogs, emails, town halls, and lunch and learns.

As a key member of the Corporate Communications team you will be responsible for aligning HR messaging with other enterprise-wide and local employee engagement efforts and supporting enterprise-wide content platforms including the intranet.


Role Responsibilities 

  • Developing relationships and providing strategic counsel and expertise to HR leaders and their teams on communications needs
  • Developing a strong understanding of HR’s strategic objectives and the role of communications in delivering them
  • Developing and implementing communications plans and strategies that promote company objectives and drive employee engagement at New York Life
  • Drafting, reviewing, editing, and gaining approvals for communications materials for various channels including email, the intranet, New York Life News, benefits brochures, the careers section of newyorklife.com etc.
  • Collaborating with communications team colleagues to ensure alignment of all communications from all business areas
  • Partnering with other Corporate Communications teams such as Editorial, Multi-Media, Digital and Design to provide comprehensive creative support for HR projects and initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Expert client relationship manager, with experience providing advice to senior stakeholders
  • Highly organized individual, with the ability to juggle deadlines, prioritize workload and project-manage large deliverables
  • 10+ years of communications management experience including strong writing experience
  • Organizational and business savvy, with proven ability to interact with and influence all levels of employees across an organization
  • Demonstrated understanding of communications best practice and channel strategy to support strategic employee communications
  • Collaborative team player with successful experience leading cross-functional teams and projects
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization and operate within ambiguity a must
  • Direct experience in HR communications considered a significant advantage
  • Undergraduate degree in related field – includes Communication, Journalism, English, Change Management and Organizational Development considered a plus
  • Experience managing team members considered a plus

This position is in the New York City home office at 51 Madison Ave.
