Position Summary:

The Corporate Vice President, Marketing Strategic Initiatives supports the SVP, Chief Marketing Officer to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Chief Marketing Office during a time where more is being asked of Marketing in the form of new programs, capabilities and collaboration on integrated go-to-market programs that move the needle.

  • In a supporting capacity to the CMO, ensure the documentation and advancement of next generation marketing programs that span sales, marketing, service and product and therefore require considerable definition, socialization and evolution based on leader input/feedback. Current examples of these new to NYL programs include Go to Market (GTM) Segmentation, Product Portfolio Positioning, Relationship Marketing in a Box, Agent Acquisition, Prospecting Optimization, Media Agency Review, Hearsay Implementation, Retention Strategies/Programs each of which require background work to advance cross-enterprise discussions and successful implementation.


  • Provide project management of marketing initiatives moving through the Retail/Enterprise marketing function, including the marketing modernization program of work, providing a clear line of site to the CMO of workstreams that are advancing or requiring further support to enable their successful completion. Proposed project prioritization against marketing plans and desired business outcomes is a priority for this role.


  • Support the Modern Marketing Initiative (our workstream to build organizational capabilities and evolve our operating model); project management and downstream activities, including the development of new job specifications, interview feedback management, onboarding as well as marketing competency and training development in partnership with HR.


  • Ensure executive meeting planning/preparation/communications that successfully bring the organization along, including draft agendas, invitations and presentation materials for quarterly town halls, marketing discussion forums, marketing management team meetings, agency/marketing monthly and quarterly planning meetings, modern marketing advisory team meetings, marketing/service planning meetings to ensure that adequate pre-work takes place to deliver aligned action plans coming out of these meetings enabling Marketing to achieve its annual goals and the marketing modernization/capability building.


  • Liaise with HR, Finance and Internal Communications to ensure high performing people, budget and internal communications management during the marketing modernization work. Supports not just the CMO, but the full marketing leadership team and marketing organization.

As such, this role provides the MLT and partners with a day-to-day strategic resource to advance key initiatives. This stewardship enables programs to advance at the pace requested by partner organizations and the CMO to advance collaboration with peers. This role will support marketing, sales and service teams to grow the organization’s ability to deliver client growth.

The CVP, Marketing Strategic Initiatives requires hands-on experience in modern marketing, stakeholder management and project oversight along with gravitas as they will often work behind the scenes across the highest levels of the NYL organization as a partner for success.






  • Lead Marketing commitments as an extension of the SVP Marketing
  • Oversee monthly Agency joint planning meeting discussions as well as quarterly planning
  • Steward marketing internal communications plans and elements to socialize new capabilities, programs and initiatives of value to the sales and service organizations as well as the broader marketing organization
  • Ensure the marketing evolution work is operationalized with the right set of capability building initiatives
  • Prepare executive reports and presentations to a variety of audiences, including the Board of Directors, Senior Management, etc.
  • Advance marketing change management programs
  • Ensure the development and deployment of key marketing messages on targeted vehicles including the corporate intranet, emails, partner department town halls, talking points to ensure marketing and outside departments are current and able to engage in the marketing work in motion
  • Drive and enhance employee engagement and talent development practices
  • Assist in strategic and tactical projects that have to do with the successful management of the marketing function within New York Life (ad-hoc projects of business demand which arise)

 Experience & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of modern marketing experience within a corporate or professional services environment
  • Experience in a marketing organization that works closely with a sales team
  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred
  • Prior experience leading direct and indirect reports
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high quality executive level strategic programs
  • Experience working with Senior Leadership and key stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and directed, with strong leadership and executive presence
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Capable of multi-tasking and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative work style and flexibility to go wide or deep into projects
  • High level of emotional intelligence and ability to effectively interact with and earn trust of peers and senior leadership across the New York Life
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop and communicate plans that keep teams informed and engaged
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products with the ability to create and develop professional presentations around business strategies and initiatives
