Position Overview

 

The position reports to the VP of PAC and Grassroots within the Office of Governmental Affairs and works closely with both the State and Federal lobbying teams to execute grassroots lobbying initiatives, influence public policy outcomes, create a culture of political advocacy company-wide, manage the agent Political Involvement Leader (PIL) program and fundraise for the New York Life Political Action Committee (NYLPAC). The position also serves as a liaison between OGA, the NYL Foundation and Corporate and Agency Communications and serves as a NYLPAC Officer.

 

Role Description

 

  • Play leading role in managing the PIL Program, including working with Managing Partners to identify agents to be politically active, motivating agents to action, training agents on the Company’s political agenda, organizing an annual conference in Washington, DC, and directing the PIL Advisory Committee.
  • Mobilize employees and agents to contact elected officials in support of NYL’s public policy agenda, including company-wide action alerts.
  • Train agents to lobby federal and state elected officials.
  • Organize advocacy conferences in several state capitols and in Washington, DC.
  • Create culture of political awareness and participation among employees and agents. Educate employees and agents about public policy issues impacting NYL and about the importance of political participation. Write informative and persuasive emails, intranet articles, speeches, presentations and talking points.
  • Create and implement NYLPAC solicitation plans for 14,000 eligible agents and employees. Present fundraising results to NYLPAC Steering Committee.
  • Foster trusted relationships with agents, managing partners and company leadership.
  • Serve as a liaison to industry trade organizations on grassroots lobbying campaigns.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, persuasively, tactfully, and positively in both verbal and written forms, including with senior management. 
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Experience planning high profile events.
  • Collaborative work style and strong leadership presence, with ability to effectively interact with and earn the trust of senior executives across the organization.
  • Project and process management skills, including proven ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong public speaking abilities.
  • Ability to conduct meetings, make presentations, and facilitate communications in a clear, concise and positive manner.
