The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Domain Architect, Corporate Vice President within the New York Life Corporate Technology function to deliver solution designs and architectures for key initiatives hosted in a variety of environments while considering re-use, scalability, reliability and alignment with New York Life’s vision and strategy. The role primarily be responsible for Finance (including Actuarial functions), Human Resources, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and other corporate functions. Corporate Technology consists of approximately 125+ applications with a portfolio size of $75M. The role will report into the CIO of the Corporate Technology and partner closely with the Technology delivery leads, business partners and other technology teams. Domain Architect should have good understanding of business processes to influence the simplification and optimization in these functions.
- Lead successful design and implementation of solution and technical architectures of NYL Corporate platforms by managing expectations and risks, ensuring appropriate organizational structures, principles, tools, and responsibilities.
- Function as a bridge between technical and business audiences during solution planning, development, and deployment.
- Potentially lead the team of solution and technical architects in large products/platforms, set the overall technology and architecture direction and own its end-to-end delivery in an architect’s capacity.
- Create reliable solution plans that include cost estimates and optimized delivery approaches by working with the business and multi-disciplinary teams.
Your key responsibilities
- Provide architecture leadership and technical domain expertise to client engagements focusing on complex yet innovative products and reusable assets.
- Evaluating existing corporate applications and processes (financial, actuarial systems, HR, Risk etc.) for efficiency, effectiveness, compliance and fit for business needs.
- Design and architect the corporate applications in the areas of Finance, HR, Risk and Compliance.
- Using critical thinking, consider the art of the possible, compare diverse options based on feasibility and impact, propose impactful plans and roadmaps that balance tactical and strategic needs.
- Cultivate lasting relationships across business, IT, and vendors / industry analysts to maintain insight into the broader enterprise as well as industry trends.
- Deep understanding of Application, Infrastructure and security architecture and non-functional aspects like Performance, Scalability, Reliability, Availability, and other “capabilities” of a system.
- Responsible for coaching, career development and building a competency for solution architects, dev ops with deep technical skills for the team including people management responsibilities.
- Design our financial systems and related technologies for actuarial use cases (e.g., valuation, forecast, CFT, experience studies, etc.) with end-to-end perspective.
- Partner with Solution Architects to maintain inventory of current state technology stack, documentation and architecture artifacts supporting the Corporate Technology and understand financial impact of architectural decisions.
- Declare key technology platforms, surface potential universal capabilities, and identify opportunities for consolidation / simplification of legacy.
- Develop integrated, multi-year Business / Data/ Technology roadmap to action identified opportunities.
- Contribute to the development of architecture governance structures, methodologies, and compliance activities.
- Ability to work across multiple projects with a variety of individuals and groups. A domain architect sets architectural direction, builds consensus, mediates conflicts providing technical leadership and advisory services to the business. Anticipate needs and potential objections and helps to create an environment which solicits positive contributions from all participants: Solution and Technical Architects, engineering teams, product manager, project managers, product analysts, test and project teams, Information Security and Operations.
To qualify for the role, you must have.
- Led the solution and technical architecture workstreams of a complex and medium/large scale implementation focused on connectivity and data flows between a complex portfolio of loosely integrated applications; being the bridge between the business and engineering; working closely with engineering to drive the implementation of solution architecture.
- Led and governed a team of solution architects and technical architects working on multiple projects/products.
- Drove and maintained complex multi-year business outcome driven roadmap.
- Advanced understanding and practical experience of solution architecture role with a focus on Financial Modeling systems, with proven record of playing its responsibilities successfully in a complex, global product/platform ecosystem. Proven ability to work with business as well as perform firsthand technology delivery work in architect’s capacity.
- Deep understanding and experience of one or more specialization of technical architecture role e.g., application, infrastructure/cloud, integration and security architecture and successful delivery of functional as well as non-functional aspects of a product/platform like performance, scalability, reliability, availability, other “capabilities” of a system.
- Knowledge of Corporate Systems like ERP (SAP, Ariba etc.), actuarial modeling platforms (FIS Prophet, Moody’s AXIS Enterprise Link), HR (SuccessFactors) and Risk systems
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the latest cloud computing and data technologies, business drivers, emerging computing trends, and deployment options.
- Conceptual and analytical skills – ability to extract, analyze, and document complex business and technical requirements/strategies.
Ideally, you will also have
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field preferred
- 15+ years overall IT industry experience, with 5+ years in a solution or enterprise architect role using service and hosting solutions such as private/public cloud IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS platforms.
- Experience working as an Architect for Finance applications and Financial Modeling related position within a financial services or technology firm, life insurance industry experience is a plus.
- Achieved one or more of the typical solution and technical architecture certifications e.g., Microsoft, MS Azure Certification, TOGAF, AWS Cloud Certified, SAFe, PMI, and SAP etc.
- Considerable experience in presenting ideas, products, concept papers to varied audiences.
Preferable to have knowledge of:
- Cloud security controls including tenant isolation, encryption at rest, encryption in transit, key management, vulnerability assessments, application firewalls, SIEM, etc.
- One or more programming and scripting languages such as JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash, SQL, .NET, Java, Python, PHP, Ruby, PERL, C++, etc. .NET and related Microsoft technology skills are preferred.
- Visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau and understanding of analytics tools including Azure Stream Analytics, SQL Analytics, Data Lake Analytics.

Salary range: $157,500-$237,500
