Position Summary

New York Life is seeking a Director, Business Analysis (BA) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to join the Strategic Solutions Group (SSG). SSG, in collaboration with other teams in Strategic Capabilities, including Technology, Underwriting, and the Center for Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (CDSAi) are modernizing systems, automating processes, and sourcing new data to increase operational efficiency and continually improve the consumer’s purchase experience. 

 

This is a unique leadership opportunity that will have a significant impact on the future innovation of the company through the development of key strategic capabilities in New York Life. In this role, you will lead the BA and UAT teams to define business needs/requirements, recommend solutions that maximize value, and lead the business user validation and acceptance of new technology and capabilities prior to rollout. You will also increase the business impact of the BA and UAT teams by developing the teams’ expertise, communication and execution skills, implementing and utilizing enabling technologies for workflows and automation, and growing the SSG team’s contribution in leadership and collaboration.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, inspire and develop BA and UAT teams, including equipping and coaching team leaders and members in their roles and responsibilities consistent with the company’s core values and company culture; provide technical guidance to team members as needed; develop and execute BA/UAT growth strategy to grow the impact and capabilities of the teams you lead

The BA and UAT teams’ key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with a broad range of functional areas (e.g. Technology, Underwriting, Field Service, CDSAi, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Operational Risk Management) and roles (e.g. product owners/managers, program/project managers, scrum masters, development teams) on planning and execution of programs and projects (activities, resources, timing, dependencies, milestones, etc.)
  • Communicate plans, execution status and results to senior leadership, management and program/project stakeholders; support and influence decisions with key insights, data analysis & effective presentations of important factors driving the businesses
  • Provide thought leadership and lead execution on the utilization of automation in testing and validation, and data-driven rules and algorithms that impact underwriting risk assessment
  • Identify and lead “test and learn” opportunities to conduct Proof of Concept projects for testing specific use cases of new technologies and capabilities that are relevant to the company’s business and operations
  • Proactively identify and solve complex problems to increase operational efficiency and improve the client purchase experience

 

Qualifications

  • Outstanding team leader/coach with mature relational skills; listens with empathy; demonstrated ability to lead without authority to collaborate across teams and effectively build high-trust relationships
  • Experience recruiting and building high performing teams with a consultative approach to collaboration, leadership and execution
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to direct reports in performing their roles in business analysis and UAT
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to validate results and solve complex issues
  • Strong ability to synthesize data, develop insights, and identify and translate technical findings into actionable recommendations through easy-to-digest communication, presentations and reports to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Effective and concise communicator especially with senior management (presentations, emails and lead discussions); develop polished presentations and data visualizations to synthesize and communicate complex data analysis to various constituencies, including senior leadership, internal and external partners
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple workstreams essential; highly organized with excellent follow-up

 

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in a variety of roles that can include business analysis, QA, UAT, product owner/manager, consulting, solution delivery
  • 3+ years of team leadership experience with proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in multiple, time-sensitive projects in a dynamic business environment while maintaining strong, productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Business Analysis skills and experience utilizing SAFe Agile methodologies/framework; data analysis and process design skills
  • QA and/or User Acceptance Testing related skills and experience, utilizing test automation best practices, frameworks and tools
  • Broad knowledge/experience of life insurance industry preferred
  • Top-tier management consulting firm or internal consulting experience a strong plus

 

Education

  • BA/BS required, Bachelors in a quantitative field preferred (e.g. Business, Engineering, Computer Science)
  • Relevant professional certifications a plus (e.g. IIBA, CSTE, CMST, PMP, SAFe Agile-related certifications)

 

 

Salary range: $145,000-$215,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
