Position Description:

NYL Investments is a global asset management firm with $650Bn in assets under management. The Technology Strategy Team seeks to design and deploy solutions that enable sales, marketing, data, product, and operations teams across the company to be more productive, effective, and data driven.

 

We are seeking a Director of Global Technology Programs to lead large technology projects across NYL Investments’ business units. This individual should be curious, collaborative, and a problem solver who is interested in how technology and data can be leveraged to grow and improve our business. This person will work closely with stakeholders across NYL Investments to deliver business outcomes from technology projects, while managing to time, budget, and scope. Technology impacts many aspects of both the employee and client experience, and this individual would be joining a team that is user-obsessed and passionate about designing great solutions.

 

Key Role Responsibilities and Functions:

The Director of Global Technology Programs must be an experienced professional who brings strong business acumen, leadership, and technology vision to our goals and problems. This role requires a leader that can be both strategic and hands-on, and responsibilities include:

  • Drive the evolution of NYL Investments’ technology and operations platforms, leveraging internal, external, and New York Life resources to maximize impact, value, scale, and spending power. Build and refresh a multi-year roadmap for the organization to guide technology and data efforts
  • Lead annual planning for strategic technology initiatives, aligned to our multi-year roadmap. This will involve translating business goals to technology needs, collaborating with and aligning senior stakeholders on prioritization, and managing the organization’s technology budget, including grow project, operating, license, and software costs
  • Manage strategic technology projects, involving internal, external, and cross-functional teams. Project types will vary based on the needs of the business (i.e., large company initiatives, smaller scale efforts, needs arising from M&A activity, etc.). This will involve all aspects of running a successful project, including defining meeting cadence, workstreams, and leadership communication; managing stakeholder expectations; managing effective meetings and working sessions; reporting status, issues, and risks to senior leaders; and driving cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes
  • Identify, analyze, and provide transparency around complex problems, and collaborate with others to recommend solutions
  • Partner with our IT organization to continually improve the employee technology experience and ensure teams have the tools they need to be successful
  • Ensure technology and data platforms, infrastructure, and tools remain current and leading edge, and experiment with emerging trends with the potential to impact our business in the future
  • Promote a culture of accountability on the project teams you manage through clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and ownership, and a “One Team, One Purpose” mindset across the project teams as well as matrixed and cross-functional partners

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years’ business experience, preferably with experience managing technology projects
  • Through your prior work experience, you have demonstrated the ability to manage complex projects and deliver tangible results
  • You are able to mobilize cross-functional teams, often without direct authority, and are able to influence others, often at senior levels, to adopt different perspectives. You have experience managing external vendor partners
  • You are passionate about technology and how it can be applied to business goals and problems
  • You are courageous and transparent, and comfortable communicating complex technical concepts, risks and issues, and difficult messages to all levels of the business. You communicate early, often, and honestly
  • You have strong relationship-building and communication skills, are able to articulate messages to a variety of audiences, and demonstrate sound judgment and organizational awareness
  • You are collaborative, resourceful, and entrepreneurial, with a focus on outcome and return on investment
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills required
  • Asset management or investment management industry knowledge or experience preferred
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMI PMP) a plus
  • Change management experience a plus
  • We work in a hybrid work environment. This job will be based in our NYC headquarters T/W/R and remote M/F, however there is flexibility for remote working days whenever needed
