Location: This is a work-at-home/remote position within a commutable distance (approximately 50 miles) of the designated office location: Cleveland, Ohio, Dallas, Texas, Tampa, Florida or New York, New York Service Centers.

 

The Training and Knowledge Management team is looking for an experienced eLearning designer to join the eLearning team in New York Life's Service Department. This position will handle all aspects of the eLearning design process -- needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation -- with minimal guidance from the supervisor, and will also provide guidance to team members with less experience.  eLearning programs will be developed for Service Organization employees on a wide range of complex topics (product, technical, regulatory, customer service). 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops asynchronous eLearning training programs for Service Organization employees on product, technical, regulatory, and customer service topics ranging from simple to complex.  Courses must be interactive, engaging, and effective at teaching the required behaviors.  
  • Leads Needs Analysis meetings with those requesting an eLearning course (e.g., business area management, Corporate Compliance Department, Corporate Audit Department, etc.), asking probing questions to assess the desired results and critical behaviors needing to be taught and uses expertise to recommend solutions (training or otherwise) to achieve desired results.
  • Uses communication skills, storytelling, and a variety of instructional methods (examples, scenarios, etc.) and media to simplify content and bring topics to life for all types of learners and help them learn in the easiest way possible.
  • Designs courses within and outside of standard templates, ensuring courses meet the team's instructional and visual standards and adhere to the company’s branding guidelines and our internal Quality Checklists.
  • Develops and follows a project plan for each course and influences others responsible for tasks to meet their target dates.  
  • Works with Subject Matter Experts throughout the design process to ensure content is accurate.
  • Publishes courses in our learning management system (SuccessFactors) and/or learning portal (Degreed) and performs sufficient testing prior to going live.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of his/her eLearning programs by surveying learners and through other methods and adjusts programs, as needed. 
  • Maintains and increases proficiency in use of eLearning software (such as Articulate and Adobe Captivate) and technologies (audio, video).
  • Stays abreast of trends and best practices in the eLearning industry and shares them with the team, as appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, with major in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Visual Design, Education, or Instructional Design preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience designing interactive self-paced eLearning courses/modules and videos
  • Solid understanding of and skill using instructional design methodology and adult learning theory to design eLearning programs (A.D.D.I.E)
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience using eLearning software (preferably Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia) and audio/visual media required
  • Ability to ask the right questions to determine training needs
  • Demonstrated ability to organize written correspondence and content logically and explain topics in ways that are simple, easy-to-understand and engaging for learners, with emphasis on distinguishing the "must know" from the "nice to know."
  • Good visual design skills and ability to create modern and professional looking courses with or without the use of templates.
  • Strong project management skills preferred
  • Knowledge of Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model a plus
  • Knowledge of insurance and investment products, processes, and systems is ideal
