Position Overview

The Junior Portfolio Manager will work closely with the Portfolio Managers supporting all daily trading and operational aspects of fund management including, but not limited to: fund rebalances, trade execution and settlement, daily reconciliations, cash management, wire settlements, corporate actions, collateral movements, margin posting, account set up and documentation and liaising with counterparties, fund custodians, accountants and various third parties on trade related queries.


Over time, if the Junior Portfolio Manager performs at an exceptional level and demonstrates full understanding of portfolio mechanics and the IndexIQ business model along with a strong desire to succeed, he/she will have the opportunity to become a portfolio manager. Each fund has a different objective and invests in a variety of complex trading vehicles so the ideal candidate will have to learn quickly about various financial instruments including ETFs, equities, swaps, and futures. The ideal candidate will be able pick-up concepts quickly and develop new and innovative ideas to improve the efficiency of the trading operations.


  • Researching and resolving trading discrepancies
  • Processing collateral, margin and wire payments
  • Ensuring trades are booked accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Effectively communicate and interact with the portfolio managers and third parties on trade related queries
  • Reconciling fund positions, trades and cash movements with various trade support teams
  • Fielding various product related questions and inquiries throughout the trading day from accountants, brokers, custodians, authorized participants and market makers
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and articulate the effects and impact of a fund rebalance on end clients
  • Timely investigation and resolution of any client queries relevant to your role
  • Maintaining and updating performance and trading models to ensure effective fund tracking and proper exposure
  • Analyzing and producing historical returns
  • Assisting and contributing to new account set up, fund launches, product development and analysis
  • Supporting senior PMs and traders with daily portfolio management responsibilities


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of relevant working experience in the financial markets
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, and Factset
  • Extensive knowledge of performance measurement and portfolio analysis concepts
  • Exceptional technical skills, ability to use VBA or Python to automate processes is preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize effectively, handle multiple projects under tight deadlines, identify/ flag/resolve potential issues early on
  • Knowledge of basic financial concepts and terms; familiarity with various financial products, particularly ETFs, equities and derivatives (swaps, futures, options)
  • Knowledge of corporation actions and basic accounting concepts
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Background experience trading across multiple asset classes is preferred but not required
  • Proficient in Eze OMS or other order management systems preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently and simultaneously
  • Self-starter who is motivated and eager to learn
