The ML Ops Engineer (MLE) Associate Development Program

Do you want to know how machine learning models are actually deployed?  Do you want to learn Enterprise Platforms, Cloud Technology and high-performance computing? Through NYL’s ML Ops engineer development program you will experience the satisfaction of seeing how work impacts the business. This program is for new graduates who are looking to gain the experience, skills, support, and exposure that they need to help launch their careers as ml ops engineers as part of a data science team. Our program combines challenging work experience and the opportunity to work closely with data science and technology professionals. You will receive training and development, exposure to the business, and mentors to help you network and forge relationships throughout the company.

The MLE Associates will be trained and develop a strong foundation. You will work alongside experts in the field who bring a wide range of experience. You will gain experience with Kubernetes, ETL tools and working with Data Warehouses and Data Marts. In your role you are a core member on projects that support the business such as using NLP to improve survival model predictions, incorporating new sources of data to improve underwriting accuracy, employing geospatial analytics to identify recruitment and sales opportunities, or using machine learning to improve retention. You will be expected to pursue your master’s while working.

The MLE Development Associate Program is built around three key components to ensure future success as a full-fledged MLE: knowledge, variety, and support:

Knowledge – technical and non-technical:

  • You will continue learning and complete your master’s during the development program. We offer tuition reimbursement for a master’s degree and/or certificates and pay fees and travel for conferences.
  • You will learn from our in-house experts in ml ops engineering, machine learning, and statistics. They will guide you either 1-1, as your assigned CDSAi mentor or through special projects.
  • You will be exposed to applications of data science through NYL’s many data science events, including guest speakers, lunch and learns, Expos, technical talks and more.
  • You will be inspired to strengthen other critical components of being an effective member of a data science team ranging from soft skills (concisely presenting a data story, influencing through data science, and effectively communicating with business partners, etc.), program management, ethics in data science, strategy and leadership.

Variety:

  • projects right from the start through the proof of concept to model monitoring and everything in between.
  • You will gain a deep understanding of the wide variety of machine learning techniques to give you a good understanding of how a data science team operates.
  • You will work with a multitude people from your internal colleagues in CDSAi to colleagues in technology and different departments through diverse projects.
  • The type of work you can expect to be engaged in during this development program includes:
    • Developing data pipelines
    • Building and/or leveraging frameworks like Tensorflow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.
    • Working with machine learning models
    • Integrating and deploying models into production systems

Support:

  • From the start, two mentors will be invested in your growth and development – a mentor in technology and one actively engaged with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - to guide you along your career.
  • You will be engaged via 1-1 meetings, small group meetings and through our active Employee Resource Groups to give you a broad perspective of the business and for you to grow your professional network.
