The mission of the Investment Strategy Team at New York Life is to serve as the strategic partner for the insurance businesses as well as the Investments teams in developing, executing, and monitoring the investment and portfolio strategies and to ensure optimal alignment of assets and liabilities, thereby enhancing financial stability, managing risks effectively, and maximizing returns in support of variety of businesses and company’s long-term objectives.
We are looking for a dynamic leader to join New York Life as Managing Director, Head of Investment Strategy reporting to Head of ALM. This role will have broad responsibilities to lead a current team of 7-8 investment and actuarial professionals. This is an Executive Officer role, and this person will interact closely with other senior leaders across Finance, Actuarial, Risk management and Investments, as well as the Business Unit areas to support the firm’s overall financial and growth objectives.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with OCIO leadership to develop annual investment program for pricing, financial planning and ALM.
- Partner with OCIO team to reevaluate the objectives and roadmap to manage company interest rate exposure
- Lead the development of long-term strategic asset allocation targets for all product portfolios.
- Work with Finance, Risk, and Investments team to develop and illustrate the interest rate and ALM hedging solutions
- Develop strategies to enhance the financial performance of the existing investment portfolio while improving the risk resiliency
- Lead the development of investment strategies to support the new business growth objectives by completely enhancing product pricing for both retail and institutional businesses
- Support various capital management and reinsurance initiatives across the firm
- Coordinate Asset Transfer among portfolios with investment operation, controllers, and finance for ALM, Portfolio Construction, Cash Management and Liquidity purposes.
- Responsible for development of investment assumptions used for new business pricing, in-force asset, and capital adequacy testing, including development of future reinvestment strategies.
- Lead the quarterly ALCO meetings with business unit executive and finance leaders
Key Competencies:
- Proven leadership abilities
- Strong executive presence and communication skills
- 15+ years professional experience in insurance or asset intensive financial services industry
- Deep knowledge of insurance assets and liabilities, including capital markets experience
- Advanced degree in Finance, Mathematics, or Actuarial Science
- Industry credentials (e.g. CFA, FSA etc.) strongly preferred
- Ability to think outside the box
- Ability to work independently as well as be a thought leader
- Ability to work with tight deadlines and changing priorities and requirements
- Ability to create effective partnerships with diverse roles and positions throughout the organization.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $250,000 to $300,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
