Looking for an opportunity to shape positioning strategy for a great company and industry-leading product line? New York Life (a Fortune 100 company; a Forbes 2021 best employer for diversity) is seeking an individual experienced in developing annuity product positioning/thought leadership to join the $13 billion Retail Annuities business.  As a key member of the Annuity Marketing Team, the Annuity Product Positioning Marketing Manager will share in uncovering and developing positioning and the value propositions of NYL’s annuity products in both Third-Party and proprietary Agency channels.

 

This role is a member of the Product Positioning Marketing Team, core to the creation of product marketing strategy that aligns with the New York Life Retail Annuities (RA) strategic business plan. We are motivated by helping the organization achieve business results through, creative problem solving, the courage to try to new things, and always looking to optimize our positioning. The ideal candidate has experience developing product positioning and thought leadership through their understanding of the annuity marketplace and is comfortable collaborating with Sales and Product teams to uncover currents trends.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of positioning strategies, sales concepts and value propositions of NYL’s annuity products in both third-party and proprietary Agency channels
  • Have a working knowledge of or be able to quickly get familiar with the competitive landscape of the annuity marketplace to effectively position NYL’s annuity product suite
  • Collaborate and partner with a wide variety of other functions and levels, including Marketing Colleagues, Sales Teams, Product, Analytics and Research in defining and testing positioning concepts
  • Work with Sales teams to capture stories that are resonating and develop sales-enablement materials (e.g. materials, scripts and competitive intel) to scale these stories for the entire field force to present  
  • Assist in the development of a product playbooks that outline positioning ideas, audience(s), approaches needed to support sales stories and marketing concepts
  • Leverage results from advisor research to inform and guide positioning ideas for use by the marketing and sales teams

 Required and/or desired qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of annuity product marketing and/or sales experience with strong knowledge of the annuity/retirement industry and third-party distribution channels
  • Hands-on proficiency in the development of product positioning strategies and sales concepts.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, research sales concepts/the competitive marketplace and synthesize the data into meaningful positioning concepts.
  • Have the willingness and creativeness to try out-of-the-box approaches to positioning NYL product solutions in a mature marketplace
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills - demonstrated ability to understand simple to complex sales concepts
  • Ability to communicate with Wholesalers to solicit feedback and present idea/concepts for consideration
  • Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Prior Sales experience a plus
