New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven Technical Lead to join our dynamic, high-performing team focused on strategic underwriting projects.

Strategic UW projects focus both on expanding the scope of data that NYL underwriters use to make their decisions as well as automating manual processes in order to reduce the time needed to make decisions and increase decision accuracy.

We are looking for a solution engineer who possesses the right combination of technical savvy and drive to join our team.  The solution engineer works with solution architects, project managers, business analysts, testers and partners to execute against programs within the underwriting innovation roadmap.  This role requires a unique ability to provide input into complex technology implementations, execute proof of concepts and work with other tech organizations to implement the solution. If you are ready for a challenging solution engineering role in a fast-paced environment, on highly visible initiatives, this position is for you. 

 

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to solution architectures that connect 3rd party vendor products with NYL systems using standard integration patterns
  • Execute on technical proof of concepts to ensure that they meet business requirements
  • Work with internal security and operations teams to ensure that systems are secure and supportable.
  • Work with business and reporting teams to ensure that solutions capture key system metrics that are available for business analysis
  • Work with data science teams to operationalize machine learning models.
  • Interact with business analysts and clients to understand problems being addressed by the project.
  • Review project requirements, assess, and estimate the necessary time-to-completion.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively to clients, management, and other departments

 

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience implementing complex programs that span multiple technology & business functional domains
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytic problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Web Service and API development
  • Strong Knowledge of Identity Standards (eg SAML and OAuth)
  • Knowledge of supporting standards including XML, XSD, WSDL, JSON and RAML
  • Experience with AWS (preferred) or Azure
  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • High Tech, Life Insurance or Financial Services industry experience
  • Knowledge of Life Insurance Standards like ACORD
  • Experience with SAFE or other agile frameworks
