Portfolio Solutions Senior Associate
Job Requisition ID: 91988
Location Designation: Hybrid - 4 days per week
The Portfolio Solutions Team, part of the Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) at New York Life, plays a critical role in advancing the firm’s general account strategy through quantitative analysis, third-party manager oversight, and strategic cross-functional initiatives. This team develops capabilities and delivers insights that directly enhance portfolio construction and investment performance.
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Associate to support the underwriting, onboarding, and ongoing oversight of third-party asset managers, particularly across private credit-oriented strategies. This role demands strong investment acumen, operational fluency, and a collaborative mindset to navigate complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
- Third-Party Manager Due Diligence & Underwriting. In collaboration with the Business Development and/or Alternatives team, conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing investment and operational due diligence on third-party asset managers, with a particular focus on credit-oriented strategies across structured and private markets. Contribute to underwriting decisions that reflect life insurance-specific considerations, including capital efficiency, statutory and GAAP accounting treatment, and enterprise-wide general account objectives.
- Mandate Onboarding & Cross-Functional Coordination. Lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives involving Portfolio Management, Operations, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Technology to ensure the timely and effective onboarding and operational readiness of new investment mandates.
- Asset Class Diligence. Support the evaluation of new and existing investment strategies across public and private markets. Analyze asset class characteristics within the context of regulatory capital treatment, asset-liability management, and accounting implications to ensure alignment with the general account’s investment framework. Work closely with Business Development to identify nascent or emerging asset classes.
- Centralized Manager Oversight Platform. Assist in the development and ongoing enhancement of a centralized oversight platform to systematically capture, analyze, and report on key manager data—including performance metrics, exposures, fees, and operational risks—enabling scalable governance and informed decision-making.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in finance or business); CFA, MBA, CAIA preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a large organization, with a strong process-driven mindset and a collaborative approach to cross-functional initiatives.
- Proven experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative due diligence on third-party asset managers, with a focus on structured credit, private credit, and other alternative fixed income strategies.
- A track record of independent judgment and innovative thinking in investment analysis, asset allocation, or portfolio construction, particularly within complex institutional frameworks.
- Familiarity with the unique investment considerations of insurance general accounts, including regulatory capital requirements, insurance accounting principles, and asset-liability management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly and effectively in discussions with senior leadership and stakeholders.
- High level of intellectual curiosity, professional maturity, and a continuous improvement mindset aligned with a high-performing investment culture.
