Duties: Interfaces with Data Modelers to export, transform, and load (ETL) data elements from existing data sources for use in the creation of new, user-friendly tables in the company's cloud data hub. Analyzes internal data architecture and data integrations to identify inefficiencies. Recommends "best practices" related to modeling business data and business intelligence (BI) solutions. Defines metadata and functional data model requirements. Engages with Application and Essaying teams across the organization to understand data requirements, flows, entities, and relationships. Monitors data quality and ensures data is properly translated for consumption by end business users. Works with Senior Developers to prototype new data solutions that support business teams in their ad hoc reporting responsibilities. Interfaces with business teams to understand business strategies, requirements, and pain points addressed by data and business solutions. Supports the definition of test scenarios and prepares test scripts to support business and technology teams in end-to-end Quality Assurance (QA) essaying efforts.

 

Education & Experience Requirements:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus three (3) years of experience as a Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) engineering and supporting data pipelines to channel data into multi-terabyte scale data warehouses.

Or, alternatively:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) engineering and supporting data pipelines to channel data into multi-terabyte scale data warehouses.

 

Required Skills:

Experience must include 3 years in each of the following skills: 

  1. Building data pipelines and processing systems to extract, transform, load and integrate structured and unstructured data from various sources using industry standard ETL tools;
  2. Performing reverse engineering and coding complex legacy database functions, procedures, and queries using Oracle PL/SQL;
  3. Architecting and supporting enterprise data warehouses, databases, and operational data stores leveraging TOAD, Erwin, and SQL workbench; slow changing dimension (SCD) 4 and hybrid SCDs 5-, 6-, and 7-dimensional modeling; Many-to-Many relationship modeling; and data vault modeling;
  4. Programming applications on premise and in the cloud leveraging SQL, Python, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Redshift; and,
  5. Migrating, designing, and implementing cloud-based solutions into insurance/reinsurance and financial services domains.
