The Actuarial Data and Automation (DnA) team within Financial Services seeks a competent Financial Data Analytics Solution Architect to assist with implementing our analytical model using data generated from actuarial models.  The data leg of the DnA team maintains the data dimensions, mappings, and analytics performed on this data in support of Financial Reporting for all insurance products, lines of business, and accounting bases within the scope of New York Life.  This role will engage and partner with all business units to understand prospective needs and advise on approaches to better understand their business blocks. 


<span style="font-family:"Helv",sans-serif">Responsibilities<span style="font-family:"Helv",sans-serif">:

Responsibilities for this position place focus on the drive for continuous improvement from an operational perspective.  The candidate will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of our data mappings used in ETL processes as well as the analytical dimensions and drivers used in analysis and studies associated with actuarial work for various blocks of business.  A sample of the projects the role encompasses, but is not limited to, is as follows:


  • Implement change requests to support evolving application, governance, and BI solution/reporting requirements
  • Partnering with Actuarial and Technology departments to ensure alignment and compatibility with ultimate goals and solutions regarding data
  • Ensure permissions for various teams aligns with governance to provide a "self-serve" environment for users to access their data
  • This person will also be responsible for small to medium system enhancements and/or large scale strategic initiatives as needed
  • Document the details of the solution, and how to properly interact with the self-service request forms
  • Interact with various stakeholders and team members to ensure solutions are fulfilling user requirements, are efficiently designed and are maintainable
  • Assist in educating and training business and systems personnel in data analysis, logical data design, standards and procedures for data usage
  • Develop expertise in trouble-shooting problems, taking appropriate actions to resolve or prevent future problems
  • Assist in after-hours implementation/production code moves/check outs as necessary


<span style="font-family:"Helv",sans-serif">Qualifications<span style="font-family:"Helv",sans-serif">:

The Financial Services Organization (FSO) Actuarial data team will be first re-architecting how business people access their data, and then ultimately building out analytical tools using many leading-edge data science techniques.  We are looking for someone with the following skill-set:

  • Bachelor's degree specializing in computer science or equivalent work experience required.
  • Demonstrable creativity and open-mindedness
  • A self-starter with strong communication skills
  • Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills
  • Strong aptitude for technology, especially data and data science
  • Ability to demonstrate a sense of logic, decision making and problem resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to articulate and translate technical language to non-technical customers
  • Ability to efficiently manage time in an environment with multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a cross functional team
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • An energetic team player


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Preferred skills/experience:

  • 1+ years of data analytics and reporting experience.
  • Experience with data controls, definition, maintenance, and query
  • Experience working within an actuarial enterprise technology environment a plus
  • Experience with iterative changes and enhancements in solution life cycle processes
