Senior Associate – Foundational and Strategic Insurance Business Functions  (Corporate Audit Dept.)

The New York Life Audit Department is accountable to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, the Chief Administrative Officer and senior management. The Audit Department is responsible for assessing the adequacy of the control environment across the firm’s lines of business. This is achieved through a program of risk based audit coverage along with advisory services at the request of management. The Corporate Audit Department is comprised of approximately 60 auditors that review insurance, investments, information technology, financial reporting, agency, corporate functions and fraud.

The Senior Associate position will play a key role in all phases of audits including planning, scoping, control assessment, test design and execution, and reporting.  The position will be based in the Company’s headquarters in New York City and will report directly to a Corporate Vice President Officer.  The Senior Associate role focuses on audits and advisory services within the foundational and strategic insurance businesses.  These primarily include audits focused on life, annuity, and disability products.  Areas audited include product development, sales, service, claims, compliance, systems, and financial accounting, as well as broker-dealer and investment advisor functions.  The Senior Associate will also be responsible for assisting with ongoing risk assessment and continuous monitoring activities.  


•Work on audit engagements which includes coaching other team members, performing risk assessments, audit planning, control evaluation, audit testing, and follow-up and verification of issue closure.
• Help to develop departmental strategy through proactive interaction with audit and business unit management.
• Communicate audit findings to management and identify opportunities for improvement in the design and effectiveness of key controls.
• Accountable for meeting deliverables, adhering to department and professional standards and utilizing consistent methodology.
• Assist the team and department to provide advisory services when required or requested.
• Provide ongoing continuous monitoring and relationship management for certain key areas.
• Occasional domestic travel (NYL field offices).

• At least 4-6 year’s internal/external auditing experience focusing on insurance operations or similar experience in a compliance role. 

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other quantitative discipline.
• At least one certification or licensing registration preferred such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA),
or Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
• Proven ability to be able to multi task, complete projects on time and on budget, and adjust to changing priorities.
• Proficiency in risk analysis and control evaluation.
• Proven ability and desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically.
• Strong communication (i.e., verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability influence change.
• Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective under pressure and willing to take personal responsibility/accountability.
