Position Summary:

The mission of the Accounting Operations team of the Corporate Controllers Department is to partner with our stakeholders by understanding their needs to ultimately provide a service that is superb, timely and valuable, while simultaneously expanding and improving our service capabilities.

 

This position will have ownership over the accounting and controls of New York Life Insurance and its subsidiaries.  The role requires strong accounting & analytical skills, clear and concise communication and a willingness to challenge the status quo. The individual occupying this position will work to ensure the integrity of the general ledger, deliver timely and accurate financial reporting and drive continuous improvement in our processes. The role will provide in depth institutional knowledge, exposure to all aspects of the Company’s financials and the opportunity to increase technical skills using new technology.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

This Senior Associate position will primarily be located in our New York office working with our offshore partners and will have ownership for the following primary responsibilities:

  1. Oversight of certain journal entries and account reconciliations.
  2. Stewardship of the general ledgers (Statutory Accounting and Management Reporting).
  3. Analysis and review of quarterly and annual results.
  4. The production and coordination of business schedules within quarterly financial results package.
  5. Adherence to MAR/SOX compliance including documenting, testing, and reviewing controls and procedures.
  6. Interaction with our external auditor, PwC, related to their performance of the annual financial statement audits.
  7. Continuously seeking faster and more efficient delivery of data and analytics, as well as more effective controller & business insights.
  8. Perform accounting research and develop recommendations related to technical issues.

 

Qualifications:

A successful candidate should have

  1. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (a master’s degree is desirable but not required)
  2. At least 3-5 years of financial reporting experience in the insurance or financial industry.
  3. Possess an understanding of Statutory accounting rules, procedures and internal controls and keeps up to date with current trends. 
  4. Expert level knowledge of Excel and other reporting, analytical or programming tools is crucial to facilitate continuous improvement. 
  5. A self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates a high level of self-awareness, professionalism and integrity in all interactions is required.    
  6. Knowledge of SAP S/4, Wdesk, and AFO is a plus
  7. Strong understanding of financial controls

 

 

Salary range: $72,500-$107,500 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
