Senior Associate, LIS Tool Developer

Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

Role Overview:

Core Modernization is a transformative initiative designed to elevate New York Life’s foundational technology to meet today’s business demands and prepare for the future. At the heart of this program is an upgrade to our policy administration system—an essential platform that manages the full spectrum of insurance policy transactions, from premium collection and loans to beneficiary management, claims processing, and policy renewals. For nearly six decades, this system has been central to our operations, supporting both client and agent experiences while ensuring compliance and regulatory standards are met.  This ambitious upgrade will replace our legacy infrastructure with state-of-the-art technology, enabling us to innovate rapidly and efficiently. By modernizing our core systems, we are reducing friction in servicing, empowering our teams to deliver exceptional client and agent experiences, and positioning New York Life at the forefront of our industry.

As a Senior Associate, LIS Tool Developer, you will join the Life Insurance Solutions team (LIS) and become a valued contributor to New York Life’s Core Modernization initiative. In this role, you’ll support the development, testing, and maintenance of an Excel-based scenario testing tool, helping to enhance the way our policy administration system manages retail life insurance products. Your knowledge in Universal Life and/or Whole Life products, strong Excel modeling skills, and clear communication will be essential as we transition to new technology. This position offers the chance to work with a collaborative team, contribute to meaningful improvements, and help shape an efficient and innovative future for New York Life.

What You’ll Do:

As part of the Core Modernization program, we need to configure our retail life insurance products into the new policy administration system and verify it generates accurate values throughout the policy lifecycle. To achieve this, we require a scenario testing tool for each product to compare policy values with those from the new system.

As a Senior Associate, LIS Tool Developer, you will play a hands-on role in New York Life’s Core Modernization initiative. Your day-to-day work will focus on building, testing, and maintaining Excel-based scenario testing tools tailored for our retail life insurance products. You'll be responsible for ensuring these tools deliver accurate, reliable results as we transition to a new policy administration system.

In this position, you will:

  • Design and update scenario testing tools in Excel to support product configuration and lifecycle analysis for our Retail Life products.
  • Collaborate with the Automation Development team to integrate automation features and ensure effective interaction with the testing tools.
  • Monitor tool efficiency and reliability, making adjustments as needed to improve usability and performance.
  • Provide clear documentation and communicate findings within the team to support ongoing product development and modernization efforts

What You'll Bring:

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of Life Insurance products and product functionality
  • Strong Excel skills
  • General understanding of IRC Section 7702 and 7702A
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in Excel with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • Working knowledge of the QA review and testing process, designing test scenarios, including understanding various testing techniques and tools, and technology impacts
