The Senior Associate position is within the Asset Management Risk Team which is part of New York Life’s Office of Risk Management. The Asset Management Risk Team is responsible for the oversight of the enterprise risk framework for New York Life Investments which includes traditional and alternative asset managers. The team provides leadership in the formulation, modification, and implementation of risk policies, procedures, systems, and reporting for the identification and monitoring of risks.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the risk identification and assessment of operational processes (e.g., trade order management, settlements, valuation, etc.)
  • Work with business units, legal and compliance as well as auditors to develop and refine controls as well as written policies and procedures that strengthen the control environment while maintaining business effectiveness
  • Assist in the measurement, aggregation and monitoring of relevant risk metrics and analytics
  • Coordinate data collection process with business partners
  • Support the creation of risk committee materials

 

The candidate should have a background in financial services with exposure to operational risk management.  The following are attributes and skills that are desired in candidates:

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable theoretical and practical experience supporting operational risk management frameworks (e.g., RCSA, third-party risk management, business continuity, etc.)
  • Understanding of finance and the investment management industry
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Financial Services, including roles in operational risk (or related) teams in a similar environment
  • Bachelor’s degree is required and course work in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Computer Information Systems is preferred; from a strong academic institution is a plus
  • Proficiency in, Microsoft Office suite of products, especially Excel and PowerPoint; and Tableau (or other data visualization tools) are a plus
