The Business Unit Risk Senior Associate position will support risk management functions for the Foundational Businesses within the Business Unit Risk Management (BURM) Team which is part of New York Life’s Office of Risk Management. BURM is responsible for oversight of the enterprise risk framework for the Foundational Businesses, Strategic Insurance Businesses, Asset Management and Corporate functions. The team provides leadership in the formulation, modification, and implementation of risk policies, procedures, systems, and risk reporting. The Senior Associate will be responsible for:


• Participating in the risk identification and assessment of operational processes
• Working with business units, Legal and Compliance, as well as auditors to develop and refine controls, written policies and procedures that strengthen the control environment while maintaining business effectiveness
• Assisting in the measurement, aggregation and monitoring of relevant risk metrics and analytics

 

Responsibilities:


• Participate in the risk identification and assessment of operational processes
• Work with business units, Legal and Compliance, as well as auditors to develop and refine controls, written policies and procedures that strengthen the control environment while maintaining business effectiveness
• Assist in the measurement, aggregation and monitoring of relevant risk metrics and analytics
• Assist in the development and preparation of various risk reports for the business units
• Coordinate data collection process with business partners
• Work on special projects as needed


Qualifications:


• Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional project management and communication skills
• Ability to work cooperatively with other internal departments and external service providers
• Ability to work under pressure, multitask, prioritize and be flexible
• Well-organized and detail-oriented
• Bachelor’s degree is required


Preferred Qualifications:


• Demonstrable theoretical and practical experience supporting operational risk management frameworks (e.g., RCSA, third-party risk management, business continuity, etc.)
• Understanding of the insurance industry
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Financial Services, including roles in operational risk (or related) teams in a similar environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products, especially Excel and PowerPoint; and experience in building, validating and analyzing Tableau dashboards (or other data visualization tools) are a plus
