This position could be based in the following alternate locations: Cleveland, OH (Ohio); Dallas, TX (Texas); Minneapolis, MN (Minnesota); New York, NY (New York); General Offices

Working under the team manager, the Senior Associate in Legal Attachment will be responsible for providing technical support to the staff related to investigation and research of complex to intermediary legal orders and settlement agreements for both New York Life clients and agents. The candidate should be able to read Court documents, Federal and State orders thoroughly and accurately and review and monitor quality on cases assigned and processed. The position is expected to autonomously support the area with documentation, testing, training, and quality assurance as well as develop and produce management reporting.


The role requires the general understanding of the Liens and Garnishment process and candidate must be detail oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills. The Senior Associate is expected to assure all protocols are followed through the appropriate channels and timeframe while taking quality measures into account when handling legal orders. In addition, the Senior Associate will play a key role in projects and stretch assignments.



  • Investigate, research and resolve complex inquiries related to garnishments, legal orders and settlement agreemants from agents, policy owners and entities 

  • Reviewing court orders from state agencies or other legal institutions;  updating documentation in the database related to garnishment progress  

  • Perform QA reviews on cases; reviewing for accuracy, completeness, compliance with deadlines, and documentation

  • Work closely with NYL compliance and legal departments for resolutions on cases, as well as assist team members with new rulings from the Office of the General Counsel and Compliance department

  • Produce management reports and develop new reports as appropriate with guidance from management and senior team members.

  • Handle the department phone line and provide solutions to internal and external customers (roughly 2-5 calls a day)

  • Monitor daily log and trends to investigate unusual activities



  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Legal experience working with garnishment process strongly preferred; able to read and understand court documents and orders a plus

  • Strong Quality Review background particularly with process oversight and documenting procedures preferred  

  • Strong technical knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access and SharePoint) required

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required

  • Demonstrated success in interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices

  • Collaborative; willing and able to work with others to solve complex problems

  • Critical thinking skills required; demonstrated ability to use sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions
