The Data Strategy, Governance, and Enablement team provide data products and services that enable the business to make better-informed and timely business and judicious decisions. It also leads enterprise-wide data governance initiatives to curate and standardize key datasets and designs and implement data management initiatives.

 

The team is searching for a strong business analyst with a robust data analysis skillset to support New York Life's enterprise-wide data management and governance initiatives called Data Experience Program. The candidate will work closely with the business subject matter experts (SMEs) and technology teams to make decisions impacting the management and governance of the company's data in the future. The role will also collaborate with the Data Strategy, Governance, and Enablement team's ongoing, client-based initiatives and agency-led initiatives, providing governance & LDM (Logical Data Model) solutions to a wide range of internal stakeholders. Note: This is an individual contributor role. Also, while this is a Business-facing role, there will be heavy interaction with Technology partners.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from multiple disciplines to evoke business, data, and functional requirements
  • Manage project scope and schedule by colaborating with stakeholders on logical data model design changes and developing business data glossaries, including business definitions and business rules to support the logical and physical data model design
  • Translate data requirements into clearly defined and easily understood documents, including business use cases and process flows, business rules, data definitions, process-to-data mapping diagrams, etc.
  • Work with stakeholders, including business and technology SMEs, to conduct design sessions/training sessions and workshops/demos and to develop user manuals and guidelines documents
  • Work closely with the design and development team to ensure that the technology solution satisfies business requirements
  • Partner with QA/UAT team and SMEs to ensure adequate test coverage (relying on own knowledge, as well as facilitating conversations with SMEs, to identify additional test scenarios)
  • Develop multiple implementation options, each with associated risks/costs and, where applicable, recommend an option
  • Identify and lead the implementation of process improvements to speed development, reduce costs, and improve application quality
  • Assist with troubleshooting and managing production issues when needed

 

Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to break down project tasks, define project scope, plan and organize resources to complete projects on time and within budget
  • Excellent interpersonal, business articulation, and collaboration skills
  • BA/BS in Business/Computer Science/IT or related field is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with at least 2+ years working in a business analyst function supporting data governance and management initiatives is preferred
  • Experience with SharePoint, Informatica governance tool suite, MS Excel, and JIRA is a plus
  • Experience executing projects using Agile or Waterfall methodologies
  • Experience with programming languages (SAS or SQL) is preferred
