New York Life’s Audit Department is accountable to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer, and senior management. The Audit Department is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the control environment for the firm’s many lines of business in and outside the United States. A risk-based approach is used to identify where and when audits are performed. Advisory services are also provided at the request of management. The Corporate Audit Department is comprised of approximately 60 auditors that review insurance, investments, information technology, financial reporting, agency, corporate functions, and fraud.

 

The CVP-Senior Audit Manager position will help to manage the Financial Reporting & Corporate Functions (FR&CF) team, reporting directly to the FR&CF team CVP – Audit Director (MG3). The Senior Audit Manager will be responsible for assisting with planning, scoping, reporting, ongoing risk assessment and continuous monitoring activities. The incumbent will be expected to manage all aspects of audit execution, including staffing and communication with key stakeholders. The position is based in the Company’s home office in New York City. The department uses a hybrid work model, where employees spend three days (Tues to Thurs) in the office each week.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with key first and second line of defense stakeholders.
  • Manage a team of 4 to 8 auditors, providing on-the-job coaching and identifying relevant training and personal development opportunities/ needs.
  • Help to develop and execute on departmental strategy, including the annual audit plan, through proactive coordination/ interaction with audit management peers and business unit management.
  • Lead audit engagements, supervising the audit team and performing risk assessment and audit planning (including scope determination) activities.
  • Manage the audit process through to conclusion, including successful completion of audit testing, audit report drafting and issuance, and follow-up and verification of issue closure.
  • Communicate audit findings to management, identifying opportunities for improvement in the design and effectiveness of key controls.
  • Responsible for meeting deliverables, adhering to department and professional standards, and utilizing CAD’s audit methodology consistently.
  • Assist the FR&CF team and CAD in identifying opportunities for, and providing, advisory services where appropriate.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years internal/external auditing and/or financial accounting experience, preferably focusing on the Life Insurance and/or Investments industry.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other quantitative discipline.
  • At least one certification or licensing registration required such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Masters in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Proven ability to multi task, complete projects on time and on budget, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong management and training skills with the ability to lead teams of 4-8 auditors.
  • Proficiency in risk and control analysis and report preparation.
  • Proven ability and desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex and sensitive issues to senior management and influence change.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective under pressure and willing to take personal responsibility/accountability.

Salary range: $115,000-$175,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt
