New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly-talented, driven team player eager to join an organization at the doorstep of a multi-year journey to transform an industry leading business through bleeding-edge InsurTech innovation.  NYL has developed an aggressive innovation roadmap to transform the experience of buying insurance through extensive use of data, predictive models, AI, etc.  The urgency for delivering innovation is intensifying:  Life Insurance industry leaders are developing competing roadmaps, over $2B a year is invested in InsureTech startups to disrupt industry leaders, and the race for digital health data to dramatically simplify the buying experience is next.


The Senior Business Analyst role is critical to delivering our innovation roadmap.  It requires a highly organized problem solver with a track record of working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team to deliver complex multi-million dollar projects.  The individual must dive deep to resolve complex issues one hour and then elevate to provide executive-level updates the next. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years of Business Analysis, Management Consulting or similar experience in a dynamic, complex, matrixed organization.

  • Support assessments for future components of the Underwriting innovation roadmap (market research, vendor selection, implementation planning)
  • Develop business cases to prioritize and sequence deliverables within aggressive timelines
  • Partner with leadership in developing exec-friendly materials to present recommendations on key technical decisions
  • Track progress to program business case by understanding holistic business and technology goals, and establishing traceability between requirements in support of goals    
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from multiple disciplines to create alignment on how their objectives are enabled through business, data and functional requirements
  • Translate requirements into clearly defined and easily understood documents, including: Executive level presentations, project charters, use cases, process flows, etc.
  • Establish a baseline of functionality within each deliverable, track variances and corresponding impacts as needs evolve, and present findings to program leadership for reprioritization
  • Develop multiple implementation options each with associated risks/costs and where applicable, recommend a particular option
  • Partner with User Acceptance Testing leads to ensure optimal test coverage (relying on own knowledge, as well as facilitating conversations with SMEs)
  • Support Business Leads with the development of a roll-out strategy and change management plan for transition to the new platform
  • Assist with troubleshooting and managing production issues when needed                                         


Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7 years of Business Analysis, Management Consulting or similar experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA a plus
  • Proven leadership, negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Passionate about process improvement and proven ability to creatively solve problems
  • Excellent presence and experience in communicating and presenting to all levels
  • Extensive hands-on experience working across multiple disciplines, presenting findings to an executive audience and publishing findings in written format
  • Highly innovative, flexible and self-directed
  • Results-oriented person with a delivery focus
  • Handles multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment


Travel Requirement: 10%
