We are seeking a highly talented and driven Senior Compliance Associate to join our dynamic, high-performing team focused on ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements by Institutional Life (IL) which offers sophisticated life insurance products in the Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI) and Corporate Sponsored markets.

 

 

Job Title: Institutional Life & Retail Life TPD - Senior Compliance Associate - PF4

LocationNew York City or Leawood, Kansas - This position involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

 

The Senior Compliance Associate will work with the head of compliance and senior leaders for  New York Life's Institutional Life and Retail Life TPD Departments to maintain an effective compliance program in these business units that service clients with over $31 billion in assets in bank-owned (BOLI), corporate-owned (COLI) and high-end individually-owned life insurance products.  Specifically, the Senior Compliance Associate will help manage all aspects of the broker-dealer compliance program, insurance compliance program and private placement compliance activities for these business units. In addition, the Senior Compliance Associate will be responsible for certain shared compliance activities and serve as liaison with the Corporate Compliance Department (“CCD”), the Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”) and Risk Management (“RM”) on certain enterprise-wide initiatives such as regulatory reporting, privacy, AML/OFAC compliance and special projects. The Senior Compliance Associate is expected to quickly obtain a thorough understanding of the business, products and operations of these businesses and help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, New York Life Policy and industry best practice.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Work closely with the head of compliance and senior leaders to manage the overall compliance program for Institutional Life and Retail Life TPD including but not limited to:

 

  • Be informed of, and anticipate, regulatory changes applicable to the business and work with business colleagues and OGC/CCD to implement appropriate changes to business unit practices, policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with such changes.
  • Identify areas of potential compliance vulnerability and risks and lead projects to enhance compliance policies, procedures and internal controls to remediate and manage such risks.
  • Liaison with CCD, OGC, RM, CISO and other areas of the Company to identify, manage and mitigate compliance risks that arise from time to time in the business.
  • Perform initial and periodic due diligence on third-party producers, servicers and vendors in coordination with CLRU and TPRM as appropriate.
  • Coordinate/support timely and proper responses to exams, inquiries and requests by internal and external examiners and clients.
  • Collaborate within and outside the business to build effective working relationships.
  • Serve as strong steward for the business on corporate-wide compliance working groups.
  • Interface with senior management on a variety of compliance matters.
  • Prepare periodic written reports on the results of compliance activities.
  • Provide compliance training to IL and RL TPD personnel as needed.

 

Role Skills and Knowledge:

 

  • Minimum 5-7 years of compliance or related experience in the financial service industry
  • Inquisitiveness, intellectual curiosity and strong desire to understand the business
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to apply SEC/FINRA/State securities and insurance requirements to the business
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and organizational skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior leaders, OGC, CCD and others
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • FINRA Series 6 or 7; 24 or 26; and 63 or 66 required or must have within 1 year
