Lead efforts to diligence and execute alternative investment opportunities on behalf of New York Life’s general account.  The position will be part of New York Life’s Office of the Chief Investment Officer. 


Responsibilities will include:

  • Detailed review and analysis of the risk and return profiles of investment opportunities across both traditional and emerging alternative asset classes 
  • Thorough diligence of all relevant information related to specific transactions and managers, leveraging resources and expertise across New York Life Investments 
  • Develop relationships with potential strategic partners to enhance transaction sourcing
  • Assist in the overall portfolio management of the alternatives portfolio, including portfolio construction, opportunity targeting, monitoring existing positions, managing external relationships, etc
  • Coordination with internal risk and capital management teams to determine appropriate portfolio-level impacts of potential investments
  • Preparation and presentation of investment recommendation to relevant senior management
  • For approved investments, lead efforts to ensure smooth execution including coordination between relevant cross-functional teams at NYL    


The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Track record of analyzing and executing alternative investment opportunities both on a standalone basis and in a portfolio context
  • A proven ability to think independently and critically analyze detailed and complex information
  • Intellectual curiosity and an ability to make thoughtful and timely observations to identify risks and opportunities in various investment opportunities
  • Knowledge of activity, strategies and solutions applied by various investor types that could be leveraged in an insurance portfolio management context
  • Understanding of insurance general account investing and portfolio approach, including balance sheet, capital, and risk constraints
  • Quantitative background working with investment models and analytics
  • Ability to bring people together across investment teams in support of analyzing, reviewing and ultimately executing on investment opportunities
  • Ability to navigate and work effectively in a large, matrixed organization with multiple decision-makers and stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in finance or business); CFA, MBA, CAIA preferred
