Background

New York Life Group Benefit Solutions (NYL GBS) is embarking upon a major finance technology modernization journey, with a multi-million dollar project underway to migrate or replace numerous legacy financial systems and integrate them into GBS’ end-state cloud-based data solution and NYL’s end-state general ledger (GL).  The financial data underlying the new GL and supporting applications are fundamental to delivering top class actuarial services and insights.  This important role will ensure that the needs of the GBS actuarial team are understood and met.

 

Key Responsibilities

In order to effectively support this work effort, the successful candidate will partner closely with the actuarial, accounting, IT and integration management teams, and oversee a team that will:

  • Determine and document the actuarial team’s needs and requirements for the new and migrating systems and sources of data.
  • Review and refine the proposed solution design.
  • Design and implement a robust financial control environment which will ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness of the solution.
  • Develop and execute a detailed and comprehensive testing plan that will ensure that the solution meets the documented requirements of the team.
  • Prepare the actuarial team for the substantial and unavoidable change resulting from the migration.
  • Assist the actuarial team in rebuilding existing tools and processes to utilize the new data sources and systems.

 

Requirements

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or career ASA.
  • Strong technical, data analysis and process design skills.
  • Detail oriented and with a strong focus on controls and governance.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to audiences of varying technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Experience in data management / actuarial modernization a plus.
  • Experience in project management / major IT initiatives a plus.
