Exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced senior contracts professional to join New York Life’s Contract Services Group in its Procurement Organization.  The individual joining the team will play a critical role in the company’s contracting processes by actively driving buy-side contract negotiations, contract processes, administration and execution.  This role has been designated as a work from home opportunity.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, negotiate and manage a broad range of commercial contracts including, but not limited to, Service Agreements, License/Maintenance Agreements, Hotel/Hospitality Agreements, Facilities Agreements, Subscription Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Amendments, and Statements of Work.
  • Ability to manage and draft contracts across a wide array of sourcing categories and transaction types in both non-technology (professional services, management consulting services, marketing (print production), staff augmentation, and trade services) and technology (OEM/reseller, maintenance and support, hardware, telecom, software as a service and software license).
  • Partner with company’s Legal, Risk, Information Protection and Security and other cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to respective policies, processes, and established standards.
  • Collaborate with sourcing managers, business partners, and external suppliers for successful completion of assigned contracting projects.
  • Act as a point of escalation for procurement team members and company stakeholders for contract related matters and questions.
  • Assist with maintaining, developing, implementing, and continuously improving processes and procedures for consistent, compliant, and efficient contracting processes and operations within Procurement.
  • Define risks and communicate escalations effectively with management and relevant stakeholders to resolve contractual issues quickly and accurately.
  • Initiate, track and monitor contract changes, deliverables, correspondence and risks, and maintain associated documentation as needed.
  • Assist with design, build out, and maintenance of contract management system and associated contract databases; identify any gaps, duplicative processes or areas of improvement and drive improvements for automation.

 

Management/Leadership

  • Mentor and develop more junior members of the team; leverage their strengths and help them build upon any skillset gaps/areas of improvement to help drive team and individual success.
  • Demonstrate contract management expertise and leadership to team members, business partners and generally across the NYL enterprise.

 

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to draft, review and analyze contracts quickly and accurately with extensive working knowledge of commercial legal principles and terms.
  • Understanding of risks and regulatory concerns associated with commercial contracting (e.g., privacy, data security, contingent labor).
  • Strong negotiation skills combined with practical business judgment.
  • In depth knowledge of strategic sourcing practices and contracting compliance objectives and best practices.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet specific deadlines while staying aligned with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent, clear, concise and timely communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Financial services company experience preferred.

Additional Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree preferred, JD or similar professional degree strongly preferred
  • Experience in technology related contracts highly preferred
  • A minimum of 7+ years of relevant contracting experience in a procurement group, in-house legal department or law firm.
  • Experience with purchasing systems, contract management systems and organizational interfaces (including e-procurement, Ariba, SAP and e-RFP tools)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams, and doing so in a remote environment
  • Managerial Experience
