This unique opportunity is a permanent position within the Group Benefit Solutions’ IT team. As a senior technology product owner, in the Digital Self Service Agile Release Train (ART), you will be part of a high-visibility initiative to transform the self service experience for Group Insurance clients and customers.

 

The Agile Product Owner represents the voice of the Group Insurance customer and client at the team level, maintaining and prioritizing the Product Backlog, to ensure that the team is working on stories that maximize business value and deliver necessary fixes and functionality to all end users. This role will focus on the Digital Customer and Client Space within Group Insurance so experience working in this area is a plus. They must have strong business skills and experience working with technology teams.

 

We are looking for exceptional candidates to work Eastern Time (EST) with on-shore, near-shore and off-shore members that want to grow a successful career and that wants to be part of an ambitious, highly focused team.  Limited travel (15-25%) will be required in the future when teams return to onsite work

 

In order to be considered, you must be highly motivated, driven to succeed, have proven IT leadership skills and have demonstrated expertise in managing large scale IT application delivery and quality engineering in a matrixed environment. You are an accomplished product owner and skilled problem solver who can motivate change as well as a judicious thinker who understands the big picture. 

 

What are the Key Responsibilities?

 

  • Ability to partner with Product Managers to decompose Program Epic work requirements and priorities into features. 
  •  Comfortable mentoring more junior product owners and assigning features and users stories to product owners and reviewing their work
  • Ability to create detailed user stories for these defined features
  • Full accountability for execution of assigned user stories and associated products/deliverables.  Comfortable participating in and supporting development and testing and production support teams
  • Ability to provide API analysis and develop mapping documents, comfortable performing and leading system analysis work for scrum
  • Engage with Scrum Master and team members on a regular basis to ensure assigned features are fully executed within the prescribed Program Increment.  Hold all appropriate Product Owner ceremonies as necessary (PI Planning, Grooming, Demo etc.)
  • Lead prioritization of work for delivery team based on business value and engagement with stakeholders
  • Responsible for user story management, including accurate story descriptions and acceptance criteria
  • Comfortable with escalating risks to Product Manager
  • Disciplined with scope management; partners with other product owners to assess and evaluate changes for feasibility and impacts on commitments
  • Negotiates and manages scope to ensure commitments are achieved
  • Builds an environment of trust, collaboration, and openness among peers and other team members. Shares lessons learned, perceptions, and best practices openly with an eye towards continuous process improvement
  • Proposes recommendations and adjustments to project delivery and related solutions throughout the life of the initiative
  • Communicates clearly with all levels of stakeholders to ensure deliverables are hit. Can articulate tradeoffs and impacts with the big picture in mind to enable judicious and tactical decision making as well as mitigate risk

  

What are the Qualifications?

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science and Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline is preferred
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred
  • 5 to 10 years of technology project experience is required
  • A proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; mobilize and motivate teams; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Ability to navigate a fast paced, highly matrixed organization effectively
  • Proven ability to present and communicate at all levels with clarity and precision both written and verbally
  • Ability to remove barriers and enable teams to complete their objectives
  • Demonstrated, applied experience establishing and delivering complex projects
  • Excellent problem-solving and judicious thinking skills
  • Experience working in an agile delivery environment
  • Experienced or retains advanced knowledge of multiple IT disciplines including software designs and architecture patterns, quality assurance methods, requirement gathering, business process engineering, etc.
